Been waiting for this idea to come out in the open just because of the fact that preorders like you said keep others from working two jobs and part time on Starbound, gets money in your pockets and the game to us faster 100% up for this, as rewards go for paying more, maybe a special pet that follows you around cosmetic gear and whatnot. Another good thing could be in game credits that could be used for cosmetic gear later whenever if you decide to add some, maybe forum titles like beta supporter, supporter and then for tiers basic, silver, gold, diamond um this idea actually comes from a game called Path of Exile its a F2P and they are supported by cosmetic looks for weapons abilities and pets that follow you, it is a great plan just because it doesn't make the game broken and people like things that look fancy. So if a dev could check it out for a way for you guys to make more money besides preorders and once game hits release its a great way to keep you guys going along with the potential to make some profit as long as the items that you would make cosmetic and fresh ideas and not things that you already have in the game, these things would be later once the game its beta but yeah just my 2 cents.

Sounds nice, any chance we could convince you to do it through Steam?

They just released an early access program, so should you ever decide that you wanted to do early access, I'm sure they would be more than willing to accommodate it, also it looks like they have built in features for community forums and bug reports, so that would be less overhead for you and the community would be able to help each other with problems, also you wouldn't have to mess around updating/paying for this forum.

When you say "digital", is that something on the lines of paypal and whatnot? I plan on doing this pre-ordering if you do plan on going through with this idea. Maybe then I'll finally have a use for this 25 dollar card I got from my dentist service stuff xD. It's been collecting dust for quite some time.

I love the idea of a pre-order if you can play the beta. Makes pre-ordering a game worth it. I'm definitely in for that. I've been looking forward to this game since EVAR! :D

I would totally pre-order this game. More so if it helps out the development team.

Having the game released earlier is a nice bonus.

The only thing id add is that some people (myself included) dot have a real way to buy things beyond cards at gamestops, etc. Would it be possible to preorder through steam or some other card you could pick up easily for $10-20? Would that be possible?

I'd be willing to throw down on a pre-order or two. I don't personally want any sort of extra stuff for pre-ordering if the price tag is cheaper and I've got beta access.

I really like the "clean" concept in the extras (as in no restriction for users who buy when its released as well as for those who preorder, i don't like the approach many other developers are taking in the subject, and would be glad if you kept it the way you are); as long as the in game content is not changed for users, it will be a breath of fresh air. As for higher tiers, you could go with credits additions, posters, physical copies, drawings and the like, personally i'm not interested but that's just my opinion.

As for payment options, i'd ask you PLEASE to include Paypal if at all possible; being a non american user and having only access to digital purchases through steam and paypal is a deal breaker in many cases, hopefully this will be possible, i wouldn't want to resort to other mediums to pay.

I don't mind the *when it's ready* statement, and will not be bothered if the beta gets released in say december 2013, i really do like the roadmap feature. That should keep us updated as well as give you guys a more personal approach in the development progress, something that should be more encouraged, tbh.

Something i've noticed though, after a second read is that you're offering the pre orders for a lower price; while i do appreciate a lower price on it, encouraging pre orders and whatnot, you should consider adding a "tier" where the price matches the price of the release version. Personally i'd like to pay full price for it and really help you guys, seems like you're needing every bit of it.

So far for what i've read, i'm really pleased with the pre-order possibilities, it would be even better if you managed to get Paypal in as well as a method of payment, and i'm really glad you're going for the linux/mac/windows/steam/direct download. Nothing beats being able to play whatever game no matter if you're online or not.

Let us know when the preorders are ready please, i will most likely get a copy or two, you certainly have my support.

If I get a Steam Key then yea It's worth it! I don't usually per-order because of all the gimmicks bad games use to make people per-order BUT this game WILL BE EPIC <3

I throw money at my computer monitor but nothing happens...

Pre-orders and betas? Where do I sign up?

This broad general game style seems to be picking up speed. Steam just introduced about 20 early access games (where you pay and play the beta, sometimes alpha), and a few of them are adventure, crafting games, such as Starforge Alpha.

I personally am stoked to see this happening. It wasn't even 6 months ago that I started to look around for these kids of games, something with more depth than minecraft and terarria. (They get real old, real fast.)

Thanks to folks like yourselves we are seeing more and more amazing new materials come about that gives more control to the player in their adventure. How long before we have technology sort of like the Matrix, where whole worlds can be created, even for just one person each?

Back to topic, hats off to you folks making this game and I hope it not only fills your wallets with the monetary praises and thanks you deserve for your hard and creative work, but that it also leads you to newer ideas for the future, be it building on Starbound or new games all together. Again, kudos. :)

    Sincerely,

    Tom
