A turn on/off option is too convenient. Maybe there should be an optional game mode? As for the time skip in single player, that could work. If there were consequences I do not think they should be devastating though. I would find it humorous to come back home to see a penguin infestation. That's a small price to pay.
And... In singleplayer? No. This idea is plain bad, and should never have been taken back from death.
1 I agree that it is a bad unrecoverable idea, but the solution that Malacard came up with is great, it would solve the problem at both ends, it would still be obnoxious and annoying, but it makes the idea not completely insane. Did you read what he said? He mentioned an npc to do it if no players help. There are npcs in singleplayer... unless you killed them all. Sarzael what aren't you telling us? Where are all the npcs I rescued...?
Im sure this would be some type of great plugin for high player count premium servers...but other then that no. It wouldnt be a very good element for basic starbound with friends or alone.
You don't get to decide what is fun for someone else, only they do. I play solo, relying on someone else to revive me would destroy my game, it would be the exact opposite of fun. (sorry for replying to something on the first page, but seriously)
Unique is all good but personally I'd rather the game be fun. And not being able to play your character or risk loosing your items and put all of that on the shoulder's of another player? ...to say nothing of the grief potential it would just not be fun in practice.
This would be a cool mod or alternate game mode. However most likely would not be preferable as a default in either multiplayer or singleplayer.
Old thread, we have 'pixel' loss due to 'cloning' yourself on death. What we could look into is additional 'cloning' technologies like in various Sci-Fi games. For instance genetically enhanced clone versions which enables you to have higher health, energy, or base attack/defense stats. Or even gain the racial bonus of other races, or change races in general or become a hybrid. Clone cost = 20% Clone enhancements = +5% per trait Total cost = 25% etc. Maybe if you lack the pixels, you get your regular clone back and the options on the clones are changed to default.
