Signs of Life looks okay. Kinda wish I could see what customization they had in terms of the player character though.

Just because it uses 2D sprite sheets and has star in it, its not related to starbound one bit.
The game if anything is similar to FTL.

Minecraft isnt just a game. Well it is. But it started its own genre.

Think of Starbound like that. When it comes out -w-

I'm getting sick of people thinking that you can sue for 'stealing' an idea.

Video games learn from each other, it's how the market grows. Besides, you can't place a copyright on an idea unless you are able to get a patent, which I don't think Tiy has, or will try to get.

Besides, if you like Starbound, don't you want more games like Starbound? What's with people and the idea of 'rip-offs?" The truth is, rip-offs don't exist.

According to you and many others, Sonic is a rip-off of Mario. Call of Duty is a rip-off of Doom. Faster than Light is a rip-off of Spelunky. Braid is a rip-off of Cave Story.

Stop with this rip-off BS. The two games being compared right now share almost nothing. You remind me of those idiots who kept calling Terraria a Minecraft rip-off.

I dont trust that articles credibility. Its pretty short for being one. And it doesnt have much info. Something that starts out by telling us someone else is bad is merely trying to force opinions. :/

That said, stuff published like that tends to be the reason why we had government control problems over the internet with things like SOPA and lately the ITU Conference. You win some you lose some.

Stealing code and art would be stealing.... not a rip off.
Eh I choose the article because its short.
Search google for tiny towers and zynga and you will find quite a few.

Or better yet just search for news on zynga they are quite famous for what all they do

And what does the 3rd line say.
    "Copy or Immitation"
    ---
Rip off and stealing are 2 different words. Similar but not the same.
    Stealing is a crime
Rip off is not always a crime. [For future reference - Scam and Rip off are also different. Scam is a crime]

Stealing Code and art is Stealing. its criminal offense.
Creating an immitation game [rip off] is not criminal act.

I'm a bit late to the party, but this game looks like my kinda game. Theme Hospital meets Star Trek :D I love it.

I don't see any "ripoff" elements here. It has pixel art... so what. thousands of games had pixel art before Starbound was even a thing.
    Edit:
That is the magic of the English language. A word can have more than one meaning. It is dependent on how the word is used.

"He ripped me off and stole my code!" is very different from "He ripped off my idea!" when it comes to interpreting the law.

  20. Depends on the idea, and how specific it is. You can't copyright a circle or the theme of outer space exploration, for instance.
