    Before the patch:
(within 30 minutes) Beaming onto planet, getting wood, stone, iron, gold, coal while searching at the surface for any population in order to kill or rob.
*irony on*Underworld? There was an underworld before the patch? *irony off*The only thing i did below the surface was digging sand in order to let ores drop down.
Then beaming back to ship and searching for other planets, doing the same. Got to the last Sector within 1 hour.

    After the patch:
Beaming onto planet, getting wood, stone, iron, coal, more wood, wood, wooooooooooooood. ~2000 wood.
Then beaming back to ship, realizing wood doesnt work as fuel anymore....
So i had to get coal. Problem: I use coal for torches to get ores and there is not many coal in my Solar System. I would need to search all planets for coal. But wait! I read smth. about meteorites? So, i have to explore the underworld and the sky. Awesome!
Now i spent about 2 hours and havnt got enough coal. That's really useful, because i'm forced to play the game and not just doing speedrush.
At the underworld there i found new things like tombs (AND a vendor who sold lanterns, gold-/silver pickaxes !), many chests (got an epic weapon jeah!).
So the next thing i have to do is to explore the sky. I hate those nasty birds....
The new patch was good work!

You can still surface hop a lot. Without planet levels you can now explore every planet without worrying about the level. This means you stay in your system, explore the planets on it and pick up surface coal when you see it. You'll have more than enough. There's no need to hit random every time to look for suitable planets anymore.

Spend more time thinking about solutions than complaining, I haven't noticed a difference in my ability to scour a planet surface and move on. I just stop for more coal now as opposed to trees and stay in a single system until I've checked those planets.

And seriously, try going underground. Lots of cool stuff down there and you can find huge amounts of ore, including coal.

I didn't really like the fact they removed wood as a fuel. Now it has all of 2 uses outside of beginning tools; aesthetics and torches.
Meanwhile, coal is used in a variety of upper tier crafting, and torches, and now is the sole source of fuel until much much later into the sectors. Too much strain on coal, not enough strain on wood.
I don't see why it was an issue having wood as a fuel. "UR PLANET HOPPING IS BREKING THA GAYME". How exactly? It's a choice. If you think it makes it too easy don't do it. You can physically choose not to use wood if you so like. I don't see why they had to force us not to use it.

I believe you are not using the term correctly. I stated my opinion in what I would do if the game was made to just stay on top and run through the world without exploring beneath. As for your extensive beta testing, tell me how much budget those companies had for their projects.

Beta word has been thrown around so much in the gaming industry that it has SEVERAL different meanings (which have been made up on a game to game basis). To answer your question, yes I have. Oh and something for you to look at while you think of a reply:

    be·ta
[bey-tuh or, esp. British, bee-] greek alphabet (β,.
    2.
the consonant sound represented by this letter.
    3.
( initial capital letter ) Astronomy . a star that is usually the second brightest of a constellation: Thesecond brightest star in Taurus is Beta Tauri.
    4.
    Chemistry .
    a.
one of the possible positions of an atom or group in a compound.
    b.
one of two or more isomeric compounds.
    5.
the second of any series, as in chemistry or physics.

Pretty sure Beta isn't even properly used in the gaming industry. Like I said previously, it has many definitions in the gaming industry, nothing is for certain. You made me google, I'm quite disappointed

coal is like the easiest ore to find, what are you whining for?
seriously?, whining because of coal?, that basically it

Coal is easy as hell to find. You'll find enough just on the surface of the world to get to a new solar system. Just keep running around, getting what you see till you have enough.

Then go to a moon and get all the ore you'll ever need. I had a stack of 100 gold bars maybe an hour after starting. If you're honestly gonna bitch about finding coal, which you're practically tripping over at all times, then you might want to just stop playing games in general.

Not everyone enjoys focusing heavily on mining. The game should support a variety of different playstyles, rather than forcing everyone to play the exact same way.

You don't have to mine heavily. Spend about 10minutes looking for ore and you have what you need, maybe he is having navigation issues. All that disappears soon as you start actually PLAYING the game and not having to worry about every single negative thing. Glass half empty never wins.

if you going to leave ,k bye then

    coal give 2 fuel charges
100 coal allow you to travel to 1 planet

seems fair enough to me to make you travel trough a damn galaxy
iif wood where to be back it would have to be lowered its value to 50 wood , 1 fuel

wood is easy as hell to collect and you just dont look at the planet you just came to loot , who know whats under
this make the games more caring and make you realise that a planet ... is an actual freaking planet , not just a chest to loot then move to the next

I am right there with him about this. I did not realize they had removed wood as a fuel source. It was the only thing I used before as fuel as I had thousands of wood, but only around 600 total coal. After the new patch I had had such a hard time finding coal it will take me a week of farming it just to get enough to explore a little bit. This must be changed back or have it to where you can make charcoal or else I will have to agree with him and stop for a while. I love mining as much as everyone else, but I dont want my soul focus to be mining coal for fuel especially at the piss poor rate I am finding it now.

I have to say after reading a few more comments on this some of you are just plain idiots. After the patch there has been many people reporting a ore imbalance on their worlds which means while YOU may be tripping over coal others (like myself) can barely find any at all. Right now I am finding so little of it that diamonds are actually a more frequent find then coal itself. At that rate there is no way I can farm enough to get by. So yes right now in my opinion taking wood away as a fuel source was a dumb move. I could see increasing the cost for wood to fuel (5 wood to 1 fuel), but removing it and then making coal a rare drop for some of us on our starting planets is not a wise move.

I imagine you'd probably want to get used to the fuel changes, it might even change so you can no longer use coal.

I don't know if you were paying attention to the first main quest, but it requires to build a "Distress Beacon" because you are stranded. Honestly I would like it if you couldn't use coal, and had to manufacture a more appropriate Star Ship fuel.

Really, what is the point of "distress" and being "stranded" if all you have to do is chop down some trees then travel across the entire galaxy? It's silly. Expect more changes in that direction.. My humble opinion.

I feel like this is a very trivial thing to completely turn your view of the entire game around.

I think one of the MAIN points to open, procedurally-generated world games; spending time doing what you need to get to the parts you enjoy.

I sometimes set aside maybe an hour or 2 to do a simple task, like mining for coal. Once you have like 2000 blocks of it, you can just store it in the ship and you don't have to worry about it for awhile. To do this though, you have to be patient with the game. You will die, you will mine for 15 mintes into straight cobblestone, and you will fall into a huge pit because you thought digging straight down would be alright ;p

    Have to say, if

So you went from singing the games praises and telling people to get it to telling them to avoid it, so because you don't enjoy digging, they wont enjoy it? interesting.

dig dig and dig some more you will really enjoy it, because i enjoy it. (do you see what i done their?)

unfortunately for yourself, digging is a huge part of the game, exploring increases the longevity of the game for everyone, and yes it may be a time sink, but you do get rewarded for the up taking of this task and tbh im kinda shocked that you bought this game under the impression that you wouldn't have to dig,

if idiots are going to leave by themself whitout having trolls do force them to do it , your welcome.

this game is great and they made space exploration bein worth more than almost free , your fueling a FUCKING space ship. so yeah it should be pricy

and if wood where to come back , like i said , wood shoudl serve as fuel as the rate its found

so 10~50 wood should be only 1 fuel

I didn't like my first starter world after the new patch, so I picked up just enough coal to go to another planet in the system. Didn't like that one either so I did it again. Third time was a charm. I don't see why this is an issue.
