Yeah.... I'm not gonna play this.

There aren't a "myriad of treasures" underground.
The most unique thing I ever found deep underground was a small temple, where the only loot was a few floating gems and some pixels.
No, things like sewers and USCM facilities don't count, it's not typically something you encounter while mining.

Exploring the surface of planets, and their unique structures (Villages, Dungeons, etc.) is the highlight of this game. And even then that highlight is lacking, with mediocre loot, a lack of quests, lack of amount of these, etc.

But no, we should take away from all that and force people into the bleak underground because....<non-arbitrary logic isn't present>. I mean, obviously punishing what is currently the strongest component of the game, exploration, is good for it, right?

Was wood "overpowered"? Arguably yes, for the system it was trying to enforce.
But there's better ways to fix this than removing wood outright, such as making much more wood required.

 

I wouldnt mind only coal being used as fuel if there was a more efficient way to craft torches. I'm not going to quit this game over this but it still bothers me.

 

WRONG!!!! my starter planet only had 16 pieces of coal that I could get to without getting butt raped by every ****ing creature and there ****ing mother. devs "here's an idea let's give the players useless starting gear and buff the creatures to lvl 10". oh my bad let's put it in lore mode...player's race leader "you need to go out into this dangerous galaxy and make us proud buuuut we are low on budgets since we bought you a gas guzzler, so here's a broken weapon and a useless tool from the janitor...GOOD LUCK"

 

Even I find this reasoning a bit silly.

I started a new character, and was able to survive on my planet just fine. Perhaps you should get better at using the two-handed sword.

The whole idea was to explore....why even make terrain deep as it is if you are going to complain about having to dig down. This game was never developed with the intention of running 2D across the map. Pretty sure if it was advertised in that sense, for one I would have never touched it. I get that its how you want to play but I'm not sure its a good reason to quit. Besides, planet hopping will only get you so far. Its almost an insult to the devs hard work to just ignore that type of content.

Honestly I can see a spaceship being powered on wood over a spaceship being powered on coal. Some kind of mechanism that converts organic material into energy makes more sense than sticking with basic fossil fuels for thousands of years.

 

my journal said that I traveled to a couple hundred worlds before running out of fuel on my starter planet...I want my old fuel tank back, the one that could go to a few hundred planets on one tank

 

The starting sword is actually fine with a new character. People have to learn now, that the weapons are set up that they are likely aren't going to be one hit kill weapons like they were before, and they will likely be generally more usable (depending on the sector).

This game was ready for beta, in fact this is probably the first beta that actually feels like a beta. Problem with you people now is a company comes out and calls the game a "beta" when we all know for a fact most of the time it isn't. Its a finished product. This clearly is not close to being finished. Have you ever been part of a proper beta test? Did you purchase the game with the idea of it being incredibly polished? As for the WoW comment, I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say.

@OP complaining about not being able to use wood as a fuel source - I'm sorry but that's just a dumb excuse to quit playing this game. Firstly, this game is still in development. Things are being tweaked and new stuff is being added all the time. You can't expect to chase the stars without putting some time and effort into the game. Honestly, have you ever played the game long enough to see any biomes other than forest?

I find it hard to believe you won't mine for coal but you'll spend probably even more time finding materials to craft fuel should they add a fuel item. You are hating the game to be hating it, this is just your excuse.

In about three hour's playing time I've gone from the Alpha Sector all the way to the Delta Sector. On every planet I've explored I've found enough coal for my crafting needs AND fuel to go to the next planet in the next sector (200 fuel each time.)

I've explored so many unique biomes, and I wouldn't have been able to do any of that had I just sat on my little starter planet and complained that I can't do anything because I have to mine coal. *boohoo*

So in summary, if you're going to complain about something in this game make it legitimate.

 

I've played betas in the past (warhammer online, world of warcraft, guild wars 1 and 2, star wars the old republic, defiance, lord of the rings online and war of the immortals) and none were as bad as this is becoming. and to reply about the wow comment, i was talking about how childish it seemed because it was so full of arrogance

 

Beta means feature complete. This game is not feature complete. Beta tests are for ironing out bugs, they are NOT for testing entire game systems and getting feedback on what works best. That is an Alpha. Have you ever been part of a proper beta test?
