Fun Fact: This game is freely modifiable Don't ever want to dig underground? Make wood into a fuel source yourself. Add armor to the game that only requires tree-esque resources.... etc..

When you can mod a game, you can make it exactly the way you want.

 

Coal isn't even hard to come by.

 

It's the OP's right to have an opinion on the matter. That said, I feel like maybe the OP hasn't sufficiently explored enough to realize that his/her argument is a bit hasty and over the top. I have played the new patch for a grand total of 90 minutes. I spent half of that time underground, where I found plenty of silver, gold, and copper (not much iron, sadly), and the other half above-ground, where I found a shiz-ton of coal and copper. To be truthful, I didn't really find that much coal underground, but I found LOADS of it on the surface. I have not traveled to another planet yet, but I have easily accumulated enough coal to travel to several. I just don't think this is a big issue IF you take the time to test it without pre-existing bias to "what was before." The patch is certainly not "forcing people to mine underground" in search of coal. It's hiding in plain sight. Just take a walk!

 

Yes, having unreasonable restrictions on exploring lots of interesting planets is a pretty annoying thing in a game that touts "explore lots of interesting planets" as, you know, one of its defining features.

 

Wood was an OP source of fuel cut down a few trees and bang full fuel. I mean whats wrong with coal? Its soooo common and in huge pockets.

 

"A few trees" does not yield 1000 processed wood (the amount of wood needed for a full fuel tank pre-patch). Coal is also A: not as common as wood, B: artificially common this patch due to a mistake by the devs, and C: used in far more things (and far more important things, like alloys) than wood.

 

You will be missed.

 

D, Isn't renewable.

They really need a renewable resource on fuel to prevent being completely wiped out. Yes yes nearly impossible, just annoying there is a possible way to reach a dead end in a game like this and be legitimately stuck on a world/system. No matter how unlikely.

 

Hence why wood is OP, it takes less than 5 minutes to get full fuel.

 

How can Coal be such issue to some people? It is ridiculously abundant on every planet, on every sector.

 

Coal is unreasonable? I spent an hour playing with the new patch and I have enough coal for several long distance jumps. I never even dug down..

 

Yeah, it's not like there's a patch note from the most recent patch stating that this is due to a mistake and that ore spawn rates are artificially high right now or anything.

 

I am not sure why people are having an issue with this. Maybe you had an unlucky spawn because I spawned with coal in sight. Running around the surface of the planet I found enough coal to travel to any other planet.

 

Just make a pick and start digging, mining for resources is part of the game and coal is anything but hard to find (even before the current ore spawn tweaks) if you aren't lazy.

I think maybe the W and S keys on OP's keyboard don't work. He only knows left and right. Poor guy.

 

I am thinking he does not know you can actually move beyond the first screen, in any direction.

 

Life must get hard when he comes to mountain....

 

You already supported the game's development so I honestly couldn't care less. At least you didn't pirate it.

 

It's beta I am sure they are working on it.
