Seriously. Many other games already do this, and I don't understand why we don't have this in SB. The tooltips in Starbound only display a weapon's base damage and it makes every weapon seem entirely weak and it makes it difficult to get an actual idea of what the weapon really is supposed to be capable of doing. So, instead of listing the base damage, why don't we do something else, instead? Let's make the tooltip take equipment bonuses (but not temporary buffs) into consideration, AND let's also add a DPS value too. So for example, if you have, say, 200% bonus from armor and you pick up a sword that has a base damage of 20, and a swing speed of 2.00 (I assume that means 2 swings per second?), you would see this: OLD TOOLTIP: Damage: 20 Speed 2.00 Let's change that to: NEW TOOLTIP: Damage: 40 Speed: 2.00 DPS: 80 That way, what you see on the tooltip is what you get (within reason -- there will be buffs, elemental resistance/weaknesses, defense, etc to account for). EDIT: Also, it'd be real nice if alternate fire/abilities were listed too, perhaps in this format: Awesomesauce Assault Rifle Damage: 5/60 Speed: 5.00/0.50 Energy Per Shot: 6/80 DPS: 25/30 Special Ability: Grenade Launcher That way I would know how much damage the grenades actually do, their speed, and their energy use vs bullets.
My approval, altrough I would appreciate if the tooltip shows both a weapon's base damage and the damage with it's current multipliers, to keep values clearer.
I found the damage calculation in the current version of the game a bit confusing as well. I like your suggestion.
