Edit: I am now the proud owner of a SteamOS VM. Maybe after the AMD edition, i will hack it into a loopback file and replace my mint install with it. Then starbound.

 

Excellent, everything is as it should be.

I need to start exploring more so I can find a magma biome. Starting fresh on one must be hell literally though.

 

If Obsidian were softer, it would be an amazing starting zone. A lot of mobs die due to lava, the ores are really nice, there're some interesting building materials. All that makes for a good starting zone. But the fact that it's nigh impossible to mine through obsidian makes it horrible.

 

I could see lava being good at mob population control. I wouldn't mind if they reduced the spawn count or lowered spawn frequency a bit on level 1 planets. Packs of mobs every 4 feet is kind of rough with fresh characters. Feels almost like night in terraria with only starting gear.

 

Yeah, without regenerating health, and the fact that you have no bandages, and you don't have gear to deal with that kinda stuff (once I got dash the game got soo much easier) the beginning is pretty harsh.

 

The things that killed me most often during my first starbound experience:
Alpha: Dashing into mobs.
Beta: Dashing off cliffs.
Gamma: Dashing into lava.

Dashing is the best mechanic EVER.

EDIT: Also, I made my sig less obnoxiously-large.
