So, I have a question for people here. It's been bothering me for a while.

I know the forum badges are just a "hey, here's a nice shiny!"

But do they actually mean anything to you? And do you even notice them?



I have one of the rarest badges. The Solarium Tier donor.

If you're aware of the donation tiers, I'm allowed to design my own weapon.

At this point, the only real quirk over modding is that everyone will have it once the devs (Molly reassured me that they'll get to it around the end of the beta development) finish up.

But nobody has seen it and asked me what weapon I plan to have made.

And while I don't want to toot my own horn, there have been times where I possibly could have deserved a badge or two, but nobody has ever said anything and I truthfully don't want to nominate myself.



They're silly things, in the end. But feeling appreciated is nice.

 

There's literally no point of badges. It used to be cool when there was that one guy with 9+ badges (Suki?), so you can easily go "Oh, that guy did a lot of good things!', but then they replaced it with only showing 3 small icons. I stopped noticing they were a thing until you posted.

Edit: Oh, and they recently edited the donator badges to look the same colours. Which was a dumb idea.

 

Then you can call the ribbons I earned in the military worthless too. What use are they?

Because you -earned- them. I feel proud of everything I did, even if I don't precisely like the processes the military will sometimes do.

My point of this is simply a matter of personal issues. I'm rarely noticed and spoken to. Being recognized and small things make me feel better about it. That's really it.

 

Intangible items/rewards have as much value as we decide to place on them. Don't let the fact that others don't understand the value of what you did diminish it in your eyes; it doesn't mean that it's any less important, they probably just don't realize the significance of it.
*I* have noticed you around the forums. Was there any badge in particular that you feel you qualify for? Try to realize that unless it's brought to someone's attention, they may not notice what you've been doing (it's not that everyone is ignorant, it's that people only have so much bandwidth to process everything, so issues at the forefront tend to overshadow ones in the background).

 

It's not so much that I feel I deserve the badge. I don't really want to ASK for them, even if I felt that I should have deserved them at the time. Well, it's the people, situations, and how much they think of it, I suppose.

I genuinely like being generous. There were several times that I bought friends who hadn't asked for a game, or helped keep someone's server up by donating the rest of what they needed even if I wasn't a part of the server itself.

I do remember whom I did so for. I just don't like calling attention to it... Kinda counter-productive if you feel like you could have earned a medal for those, no?

Apologies for that, then. Though the ones I did buy the games for made it a public announcement that I had.

 

Got any links to the threads/posts? Things slip through the cracks all the time. I feel fairly confident that someone here would be happy to nominate you (supporting evidence helps the nomination a lot). Yes, calling yourself out for something kinda defeats the point, but doing so doesn't change the original intentions for doing the deed (whether they're questionable or good, although calling yourself out generally indicates they're questionable).

As far those whom you've helped/benefited, they probably did say something, but things get missed all the time. I tend to look at it as "if I don't notice it, someone else probably didn't either". (I do know about the donation, I was playing on a server at the time where you made a generous donation to keep it going. Not sure if that qould be considered a qualifier for a forum badge or not since it was outside the forums.)

If you don't want to dredge up old stuff, then you can always do a giveaway or something. Keep plugging along until you're noticed.
