That's the only reason why I like public schools, because they are not allowed to shove religion on others in school.

A desk. It was pretty hard compared to, say, my lap.

The hardest topic I've had to write a paper on was "journeys". Under exam conditions. I just winged it with an essay about how fictional plotlines often encompass a journey in structure.

Yes it is, but I was just saying that was the ONLY thing I like about public schools.

Over here, public schools are actually pretty good and well funded. :/

"Public school" and "well funded" should not be in the same sentence. That's the american attitude, at least. >_<

That's why selective classes are a thing. If you didn't get in one, you're doomed. Luckily, I was never put in a "mainstream" class! :D

Not going with the mainstream is too mainstream now. Geez, awes, get with the fashion.

    Hmm. . . That's. . . suprisingly difficult.
I mean, i've written a paper on Somalia, but I strung that one into politics and the role of government (Somalia's a shithole, if you haven't noticed).
I wrote an 8-page essay about octopi that I submitted to my regional science fair and got first place for. That was cool. The hard part was deciding on a subject, I practically pulled that one out of a hat, turns out octopi are really cool.
The hardest thing is probably those fucking descriptive essays. Where you're not actually allowed to say anything, nor is anything allowed to happen. You just have to ramble on about the same thing for W words, include X number of similes and Y metaphors; also, include Z senses. Remember that you're also graded on the flow and quality of writing, but, as stated previously, you must have one subject, so your writing cannot flow. It pretty much degenerates into rambling on until you manage to fit all of the requirements in.
Fortunately, i'm one of those people who is perfectly comfortable with bullshitting and directing the paper into tangents that I find the most interesting. As long as I find a logical way to connect the two in the intro and conclusion, the graders don't mind. . . Usually.
Though, if you just talk about general writing assignments that don't necessarily fit the essay archetype of "so many words about X subject" then the hardest ones have to be my calc 3 written homework assignments, where I have to explain every step of my thinking in words, despite the fact that I just explained my thinking in numbers right there. And how do I make these numbers into words?

Now, the easiest essay I've had to write was one that I got to choose, and I chose "storytelling and the elements of literature in videogames." Which meant that I got to put in plenty of original research into my writing, mostly on (an emulator of) the MAD arcade game to Bioshock to the Mass Effect series. and watch plenty of Extra Credits episodes. That was a fun essay to do. Plus, it was the big research paper for the year, which meant we spent every Tuesday working on it for half the semester and it was worth 25% of our grade.

You could have just written "introduce the bible to them" or something.

"why did <insert author here> write <this thing> in this way?"
"to make it interesting to read"
    *FAIL*
i struggled with english a lot. i can spell and punctuate well (when i feel like it), but explaining why people wrote the way they did is hard.
