Steam game cards come in sets of between 4 and 12 cards. You'll get half a set free from owning and playing the game, but you might get duplicates. When you collect an entire set you can 'craft' them into a badge. The badge comes with a random background, emoticon and another card of the game. If you already have the badge, it'll increase in level up to five. There are also rare badges that can only be crafted once per game and need to be made entirely from Foil cards, which are rare.
Here are pictures of the starbound backgrounds you can get, but remember it's random. Most backgrounds can be bought off of the market for a few pennies, if you have any spare steam wallet cash.

So is pikachu just your favourite Pokemon or do you have others?

 

I have a few others: Charmander, Lucario, Floatzel, Houndoom and Bagon, but Pikachu is probably my favorite-favorite.

 

I've only ever played platinum and X so I don't remember what most of the Pokemon look like in terms of apearice and I only remember a few by name

 

I only really played the Mystery Dungeon red rescue and explorers of sky, but I role play a lot with Pokémon, so I know quite a few.
