If only the floran were barky like the oaken soldiers, then maybe they could withstand fire better :(

The ingame racism doesn't bother me, it's part of the lore.

As for the races, Hylotl and Avian girls are hot.

realistically the whole fire thing is not true its about as true as humans and fire, there is a reason you don't look for wet wood when trying to get a campfire going.

    • What's your preference in races in Starbound (or other games) - reptilian > avian > flora > Chordate > insectoid > mamila
    • Do you have a specific race you love or hate, and why? - Lizards are cool bishes,
    • Your general thoughts on racism in fantasy. - I prefer it, it makes it more real.

Trees burn all the time, while living, sure it's hard to get a wood fire going from a spark if the wood is wet, it is not however hard to burn wet wood in a fire that's going. It's even less hard to burn vines in a fire that's going.

Side note, the florans (or at least a bunch of them), inject themselves with drysap to make them non-reliant on water.

I could see Racism maybe creeping into a RP server.

Imagine a race taking over a planet and waging war on other planets

It adds a dynamic to the game. Your choice in race should matter ability-wise with different traits, how you react to different environments and the way others treat you. From people being hostile, charging more/less in shops and hopefully more as the game progresses.

Joining "Crews" could be interesting. Visiting Avian ships and seeing how they formed a crew, it would be cool to be able to sign up with them which can give you benefits. A friend to help explore the planet maybe? Of course, they will reject certain races or require pixels to join, but being loyal to them will make other races hostile to you knowing your allegiance. Considering it's a game with human personality projected throughout, racism should be something implemented. It's something we understand and relate to to a certain extent.

I play a as a Glitch and nobody is racist to me.
    Instead, they're very curious:
"Did being severed from the hivemind hurt?"
"Why do you say those words at the beginning of your sentences?"

    Also, I heard this:
"The Miniknog have made me promise to stop teaching Glitch how to twerk."

"Racism" could be easily replaced by other words, like rivalry, feud, nemesis, basically anything but racism :D Anyway, "racism" hits home emotionally because its real, and its been in every single bit of storytelling ever created, in either a racist or specist variety :p (caveman vs dino, dog vs cat, cat vs mouse, deer vs hunter, lion vs evil lion, Jedi vs Dark Side, alien vs human, plant vs zombie, etc) I think I'd say that about 70% of any story depends on both the villain, and things going terribly wrong.. Can you think of a good story where things start out great, stay great throughout the book/movie, no-one ever interferes or tries to spoil the fun, and it ends just as happy as it began? :> Bad guys don't care! They'll abuse the elderly on Lifetime, they'll take food from crutch-using kids, they'll make orphans lives a living hell, they'll somehow have the energy to attempt to abuse 101 dogs.. SOMEONE has to be hated for any tale to be successful, which is why I propose a seventh unplayable race who, like the OP, hates everyone equally ;)

On that note, if OP despises monkeys/primates, I despise birds! Particularly angry varieties, sports varieties, loud varieties, and mite-bearing varieties ;) They're all so damn cute.. Need some turkey and owl heads thrown in to spice em up :>

I'm not actually sure this is true. Having read all the codex entries, I love the setting that the devs have created, but it's actually quite dark in many ways. If you just look at the societies and situations of all 6 species, there is a lot of terrible stuff going on. There is a great deal of clear conflict between the different groups, although some cooperation demonstrated as well. Albeit generally out of convenience. I definitely see alliances forming and wars breaking out between them if someone were to write a history.

One thing that kind of irritates me about the lore is that it seems like the fear and hatred directed at the florans seems to be justified. It's mentioned somewhere that the violence they display is more out of failure to understand other forms of life, but having read the codex entries it seems like to me that they're just extremely aggressive and predatorial. I love the florans, they're so cool, but I wish they hadn't been created evil by nature.

It does seem strange to me that the Hylotl are so discriminated against given the little I know about them, they really do seem like some of the few good natured people out there.

I think we should have way more racism in the game. And they should have race-specific vendors and water fountains.

Right since I didn't see anyone replying specifically to you I'm going to help clarify things since it seems you didn't understand what OP had to say, maybe even didn't read in the first place. The OP is not complaining about racism, he is talking about how he finds it interesting with the way the races interact with each other, and is asking what we think on it.

This is gonna sound weird but; I love the racism!

Obviously I'm not actually a racist but as much as you'd like to pretend it doesn't exist, it does. Especially in more third worldish countries, or from 1st world to 3rd world looks down upon situations. I think it adds an entire new level of complexity and realism to the game. You can't honestly expect to go blasting through the starts and not have races prejudiced against you, right?
