Worth buying?

I would say probably not. I have 140 hours in it, though that's progressing through the game twice and honestly just playing with the instruments more than anything, and a lot of grinding, and I have no desire to play it at the anymore (least until a big update comes along), in comparison I have 240 hours in Terraria, and I'll be restarting that again afresh when the Lunar boss comes out, and an ungodly number of hours in Minecraft (I'm going to guess 1000s) and still counting.
I think the kicker is, I don't think I've enjoyed a large chunk of the time I spent playing.

As it stands, the biggest concern for me is it dying out before it reaches release, or even follows through with most of the advanced features. On the plus side, I suppose there are already some advanced mods if that situation ever does happen.

If you're going to get it, go for PC, for the mods.

"I don't care it got damaged during "use." You've said this car was *used*, not *damaged*. You've mislead me sir!
Alpha is alpha, beta is beta, early access is early access.
I do not think they called it Beta with the intention to mislead people, but it will not change the fact that some felt mislead.

    @Elate
I feel the same way. I sunk some 40 hours into the game, about 3-5 of which were fun. The rest was grind. Grind to get back to the state before the wipe. Grind to get the tech I thought would be fun but in the end it offered less than I hoped for.
When you begin the game you can craft less than you could in Terraria. The items that you see in the various screenshots? You can print them with pixels. But first you need to find them and scan them (spending pixels). Where to get pixels? Grind.
Sure, they wrote you will have farming, trading and quests in the future and that everything will be balanced, but until then playing is a chore.

The main factor that killed the enjoyment so fast though was the disillusionment- the game contained much less than I was lead to believe.

So, to answer the OP: If you are interested purely in playing, having fun and having it right now - I would wait. There are other sandbox titles that (even in "early access") can bring more enjoyment.
If for some reason you want to participate in the "early access," help the devs, submit bugs, suggestions etc., then, well, hard for me to say, depends on how much you value this sort of thing.

BTW. Could someone elaborate on the whole "the price will rise as the game develops" thing? The current price is not final? What are the devs' plans?

    THIS haha.

    Who remembers the biome demo?

It feels as if just half of that is in the game, and not even talking about the ocean biomes and such.

In my play-through most of the planets felt very bland compared to the ones I see in that vid. The one with the vivid grass background for instance, or the one with the pink blossom everywhere, or that deep red one... Why don't we see gems like those in-game?

I wish development was linear too, but alas, the real world.

I never said I created the OS on every phone. You can go back and look at what I said, but if I need to say it again... here you go (since you couldn't be bothered to even click on the links Akado provided or if you did, really suck at reading comprehension): Lets suffice it to say that if you own a cell-phone, you're running code I have helped develop over the last 13 years.. and that is just a small tip of the iceberg.

(no where in that statement do I make the false claim to have created the OS on every smart phone. Try again if you feel the need to be a personal troll.)

Alpha and Beta aren't just words in the software development arena. There is a very distinct difference between the two, and I would implore you to educate yourself on the subject, because this game is not in beta.

I previously addressed the OP on page 2; the post you responded to was addressed to Silverforte's comments which reference the OP but does not directly relate...

For the record, I don't need to back-up any claims because I don't have to prove myself to anyone on this forum. Take it how you want to take it, but I still feel Chucklefish management and their devs are extremely lazy. I wasn't 'shown' the door. I asked BRAWW to delete my account because I was tired of the BS and I was going to quietly exit, but after sleeping on it I decided to come back because I have paid money for this game and I do have an invested interest despite what you or anyone else may think. Ask BRAWW for clarification if you must... You can stop the personal trolling anytime... something moderators have called you on many times already, but I don't expect you will... PEACE.

not with words that are used differently by every development team - subjectively. It's not like it's hard to see what each development team means when they use the two words anyway, and therefore it is semantics for all intents and purposes, just like he said.

No. It's not semantics. In the software development world there is something called the Software Development Lifecycle (SDL) and the Software Development Release Cycle . If you are experienced in the field or have taken a lvl 100 college course on the subject you would know this... it's very black and white, except to those that have no clue...

It's not semantics within the game's development. It's semantics when you compare it to other games' development. Try it, and you'll see not every dev team (not even close) thinks of beta as the same - same as alpha. There's variance, sometimes a lot sometimes a little. The fact is, it used to be black and white. It isn't now, and some people don't like that.

Then the whole world is open to interpretation and nothing is objective... ever. Nice try... we are going to have to agree to disagree.

So you come in, make claims that you're not willing to back up (because you don't need to), and then say I've been called on for trolling many times from the mods?

Do you not need to back that one up, too? I'm pretty sure I don't have points built up on my account, nor do I have "many" messages in my inbox from mods telling me to cease and desist. Anyway, good luck with whatever it is you're doing.

All cellphones made today has code you helped develop, and it is just the tip of the iceberg........ So if this is just fodder for the iceberg, what is the iceberg you speak of? Do tell, I am on pins and needles. I made the assumption that it has to be OS related based on your big cliff hanger post....

SDL is a framework to guide development, it is not a cut and dry set in stone process. Everyplace I have worked has modified this framework to fit their environment. I would NOT expect you to know that as it seems it is you that has only taken 100 lvl college courses and made assumptions about the real world.

    Back on topic:
In regards if it is worth buying, I stated I had about 100 hrs into this...checking steam today and it is 199 hours. For 15 bucks, if I NEVER play it again I got my monies worth ten fold. Just think if all entertainment was only 7 cents an hour. We would all be filthy rich.....maybe as rich as the guy who created the internet OR the smartphone OS!!!! WIN

There is a lot more to a cell-phone than just an OS and if you actually understood that, you might have avoided your error in judgement.

There are actually two OSs. One to control the baseband, the real-time low level resource / radio signal management side, like AUTOSAR, QNX, or Symbian and the other to control the broadband, a non-realtime interface to the user, like Android, iOS, etc. In addition to that, and even more low level, there is something called a System on a Chip. It's exactly what it sounds like, it's an entirely closed system of ICs contained on a single wafer that has its own firmware that manages each major component.

In a more condensed form: the reason the Moto X is able to respond to an "OK Google" command even while the phone is in 'sleep mode' is because it has a special low-power DSP core within an SOC that has firmware specifically waiting to interrupt the watchdog timer if the ADC happens to produce a binary match to "OK Google". It has nothing to do with the OS... So, maybe now you might have an inkling as to where your error in judgement was?

I'd be happy to provide my educational qualifications if you provide yours. but as I am putting you on ignore... I doubt I will have the opportunity.

    1) make money
    2) make money
    3) make money
    4) develop game
    5) make money

Note: Not necessarily in that order.
Note note: I'm qualified to state this, because I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once...

Base mechanics are still changing so give it some time before deciding. I recommend waiting until at least Stage 2 of Beta (optimization) before picking it up. The game currently feels empty with lots of lag on most public (US) servers.

To be fair, I have seen planets like all those (excepting oceans of course). Some of the more vivid ones are only that vivid in the video because they're only on screen for a few seconds and it's sunset. Sunset is a beautiful time in the Starbound universe but, alas, it's always over too soon. Things were more vivid overall before they changed the lighting-by-star to be more muted but I do think having less bright colours during most of the playtime is far easier on the eyes. They could add in a really low probability highly vivid atmosphere type though, to bring back the old strong colours.

You raised a good point actually... Every planet seems to have a very similar day/night cycle, not sure if the day/night length is the same on each planet (and equal) though, but it would be fun to find certain planets that have permanent nights or days, little things like that definitely add to the diversity.
