World wipe

So a world wipe as been announced my question is :
If I begin to build my home will it be wiped ? I guess yes, so if it is will I be able to do some sort of backup ? If no, please wipe worlds asap !

 

yes, they will be eventually wiped. no one knows when.
no, theres nothing you can do to stop it other than setting STEAM to not download starbound updates.

 

World wipe. The worlds are wiped. Everything on said worlds is wiped.
Since they're wiping to change the planet system, there's no way to save your world from the evil .
It might take a while for them to wipe worlds.

 

Will the upcoming world wipe effect ships? I'm guessing no, but I could be wrong.

 

No, but a Ship wipe is imminent as well.

 

I just hope they give us plenty of warning so that I can stockpile all of my stuff in whatever isn't being wiped at the time. I've been saving back-ups of my "player" and "world" folders every night, though, so hopefully I'll be able to get around the wipes with them.

 

i doubt you will. usually wipes are becuase they are changing the way things work(new engine) and a previous save wont work with a new engine. not meaning to burst your bubble but just give you a heads up.

 

Well that's a darn shame. I'm still gonna try it, but I'll make sure to be fully prepared for the worst.

 

you could stop STEAM from updating the game but you would be left out of any new content and game breaking bugs. lol

 

I'm not convinced that my ~250 block wide village made of dirt and cobblestone is quite worth that. I will miss my Tool Merchant and Doctor, though. Those spawners are a pain to hunt down.

 

there are mods you can install to replace them and then delete the mod if you like.

Is there a specific source to any of these statements? All I've heard from the news is that the developers will change the sectors... I haven't seen anything specifically saying worlds will be wiped. For all I know, they may simply be remapped. And I cannot recall any specific mention of ships being wiped. Then again, I may have missed something. I think it would be helpful to post a specific source that specifically states a world wipe and/or ship wipe is planned. Anything else is just speculation.

Okay, so I found a recent statement in the news area that talks a bout a wipe:

However, it specifically states the following:
- The wipe is due to a finalization of the universe layout (I'm guessing sectors)
- There will NOT be a character or ship wipe
- Your worlds can be backed up.

I do not understand the last point - does this mean that when the universe layout is finalized, we can have our backed-up worlds be included?

 

I'd like to know this as well. I've poured tons of pixels in building materials. A cool million at least.

 

I think it's saying that worlds will be wiped, but that we can back them up to keep them.

 

I think it means that, while the universe will be wiped, if you back up your world file, you can overwrite the new universe's planet file with it.

 

I wonder if that means we'll have some kind of search function for world titles, if they re-use them? Otherwise it'd be quite the challenge to find your old world.

 

That would be awesome if they do that!
