Closed World glitches becomes frozen (in time)

So this has now happened twice and it has nothing to do with mods since the first time I did not have any. I am attempting to set up a large scale colony and had many massive buildings, the glitch occurs when placing a door or hatch of some sort. It acts like it is placed (ie disappears from inventory) then all the NPCs in the area become frozen in place with what every movement they are preforming, also all tiles become unbreakable as well as any placed object (meaning I cant recover any of my goods). Spawning out the first time this happens causes the game to crash but after that it is fine expect for that world which is continually frozen.
