World Generation Is Poop

Is anyone else really aggrivated when they come across a, for example, half volcano, half snow planet? Or if they go to a forest planet to find the majority of it is covered in desert. I know plenty of people will disagree with me, but when I go to a snow planet I don't want "forest with some snow mixed in" I want HOTH! I want the water to be iced over, I want snow, I want slush, I want caves that actually FEEL like I'm going to be fighting that (name escapes me) creature from Star Wars. I don't want giant plants, and poisonous liquids there. Same goes for forest planets, I don't every forest planet to be populated by giant plants and poisonous liquids either, sure I mean its cool from time to time, but when every goddamn planet I go to has green grass, red dirt, towering plants, and poisonous liquid it gets a little old. Especially when I go to a forest planet and when I beam down its a fucking volcano, and I have to walk a mile out to find anything resembling a forest.

In conclusion, what I'm asking for is more planet variety. Not every forest planet I go to should have the "red dirt, green grass, giant's garden" atmosphere.
I also don't want split biomes, or atleast it should actually make sense, and not ruin the atmosphere of a planet. Maybe tone down the size of certain secondary biomes.
Thirdly, I know I'm going to have alot of people disagree with me, and this is just my opinion. I don't know whether this should go here or in suggestions, so I'm putting it here for now.

They are still adding new biomes. Kind of a waste of time to edit generation every time they do it. So it will likely be a bit messy tell they feel they have a good number of biomes.
And once they have a planet scanner. It will hopefully save you time when looking for a planet with xx% of a biome you want.

I think the Starwars creature you're looking for is Wampa. A Wampa is what captures Luke and ties him up.

The split biomes you're complaining about DO make sense, though.

Volcanic ash is full of nutrients that fertilize soil. It makes mad sense for there to be volcanoes on forest planets and vice versa.

Further, geothermal activity creating hot spots on an ice planet isn't particularly unlikely, nor is those hot spots having vegetation and poisonous/acidic pools, considering the types of chemicals that could be spewed out.

A 'magma jungle' biome, similar to Belsavis (to keep up the Star Wars references) might make more sense, but that's not a current biome type.

A 'dying' planet where water tables are rapidly decreasing might even have desert encroaching on jungles or forests. . .

Besides, planets are big places. All those biomes exist together on earth. Jungles near desserts, forests in tundra, forests in volcanic calderas. . . They're all real life phenomenon.

I don't understand how someone can say that something that actually happens in nature 'doesn't make sense' in world generation.

Try and attach a one word biome description to the earth. Now explain to me why you're pissed when 3/4's of the planet is covered in water and you beam down into Las Vegas.

Hell most of the planets I land on either have green or purple dirt, I've only come across 1 planet that had brown dirt, that being said I have only gotten to the Gamma Sector recently.

Wait wait, we're complaining about forests and volcanoes existing in context with each other? Really?

Keep in mind... Just because Earth has all these biomes does not mean every planet has. I'd love more variety as well, but it's probably not that easy to find another planet similar to how many biomes Earth has as a singular planet if we were to travel into space and try to find one. So the more variety there is the better the experience would be.

One planet full of snow/ice/etc. One planet full of desert/dry/etc. One planet full of volcanoes/etc. One planet completely dying. Blah blah blah. If every planet has all the biomes combined then nothing would be special about them.

Meh, I like the biome changes on each planet. However, I HATE THE FREAKIN POISON WATER. I died too many dang times to it...........but I guess I need to become more careful

I agree, it makes sense for planets to have multiple biomes. What I was trying to say was that, in a game that is fucking massive, content can only go so far before things are put on repeat. Say I want to go to a snow planet, you know? I want to be in the middle of Hoth. I want to reestablish the Miniknog rebellion. I want the "Snow-Planet Experience" I've already been to a forest planet, I've explored the arid wasteland of an arid planet, and I've felt the desert heat of a desert planet. So you know what I see when I get to my snow planet?
I see trees. Yup. Lots of trees, grass, and among other things, little to no snow. What was I promised? LOTS of snow. Of course if I head out a ways to the left or right, I'll find more forest, or snow depending on which direction I head.
Sure in the end I get my snow, but how do I feel? Cheated. I wanted a full on snow planet, was depicted by the graphics on the starmap when I warped to the planet. I didn't want any forest at all.
Same goes for a magma planet, I go to a magma planet expecting magma, what do I get? Half jungle. I don't want two experiences in one, it takes away from the atmosphere of the experience I want at the time. I wanna explore new things, not new things mixed in with old things.
If they want to make split biomes, they should atleast add a feature where it tells you the main biomes of a planet, that way if I want to find a planet with snow and ONLY snow, I can.

    Poop?

Without poop you would die - your intestines would explode and essentially die from infection.
Poop = fertilizer which helps plants grow.
Plants provide oxygen - too keep us alive
plants provide nutrients to animals to which we eat
plants provide the synthetic compounds which create modern day products.

So your saying the World Generation is so awesome the entire game revolves around it?!
I have to agree - great compliment. Good show. Good Show.:iswydt:

I'm all right with world generation, even if some adjacent biomes make less sense (I'm sure lava/snow happened somewhere). Name generation is poop, literally. You have weapons/shields with "poop" in the name. But I'm fine with that.

World generation is ok, but needs a bit of work. As was pointed out there really is no solid planets anymore. Unless someone found a rare treasure perhaps, but I doubt that.

I don't mind the fact there is a possibility for mini-biomes to appear on a planet, but where is the possibility for them not to be. there should be solid planets along side those with dual biomes. So in that way we could have a choice or selection of which style. That and I think they need more biomes anyhow. I like the way it is now, but always could use improvement. :D

Yeah, there should be more planets of only one type of biome than there is planets with more types of biomes. For simplicity, planets with trees on them could be inhabitable planets, where you wouldn't need to take a oxygen tank or any oxygen source with you on the planet in order to breathe.

But I think there should be less habitable planets, planets with trees on them (planets you can breathe on). In such a way that oxygen would be more or less as important as fuel for the spaceship. I think that would make the game more interesting. I don't think it's good to have mini-biomes on every planet though, I think the mini-biomes should mostly appear on planets with trees on them (*habitable, able to breathe on).

don't know about it being more uninhabited planets than habited... That to me would detract from myself ever wanting to visit certain types of planets. a 50-50 chance would be enough for me. That way I would seeing some is traveled more than others.

I don't mind the snow planets having trees, as they are sparse usually when it is a snow biome. Sometimes though those snow biomes have those ice trees as well which is fine since it does not provide wood. glad trees at the moment don't grow back on their own, as that might be something not so well in my opinion. However regrowing trees would only be feasible in the forest or jungle biomes, if they do put that kind of adjustment in.

Too many planets that require oxygen tanks could be too much of a road block as well. I mean right now every system I go into is already 1/3 not feasible to visit; whether it is needing warmth, not visitable(gas giants), or needing oxygen tanks. If was more than that, it wouldn't be much of a fun game to play in the beginning. Right now I even have troubles exploring due to that 1/3 I will not go to until I have equipment. Finding a system that has less of that stuff is already difficult, don't want to make it even harder or more troublesome to find. So the ratio it is now is fine, just needs more variety added.

Finding a good balance is not always easy to do... especially when there already is quite a few biomes out there. So what I was saying was I only half agree. I see the point in having singular biome planets, but don't want to see it take over the universe like some tentacle that took over earth.

Well it would make more sense to have more singular biome planets than planets with more biomes on it. And I think it would be cool if the oxygen tank needed to be refilled with oxygen, so you can't just put the tank on your back and expect it to always be full of oxygen. And uninhabitable planets could be made habitable by planting lots of trees on them, for example. So you could basically go to a uninhabitable planet with a oxygen tank, and lots of tree/plant seeds, etc, and then make it habitable by planting those plant seeds and tree seeds. And while the planet is becoming inhabitable (getting enough oxygen), you could have built some kind of shelter in which you could breathe and plan your next step, etc.

Don't know if it is ever going to get that complex. To me it doesn't make sense to have more singular ones that dual biome ones...o_O

But I guess that is just me. I think I prefer the simplicity of the game more, than adding some for of hassle. Well close to being that. For me, refilling the air tank would certainly take away from the game, as there is enough to keep track of as is, and they already plan to add more things to keep track of. So in essence the simple way of it is less taxing. That meaning more than one thing of course. keep in mind I am a builder first before I am an adventurer in these type of games. That would be the reasoning behind my own opinion of the matter.

I do like the idea of the oxygen regen thing, but for me it is just something I would want to add. Them having plans to terraform or the ability to terraform in the future seems well already, but that really all depends on how they go about it. One can not simply have liquid air on a planet, as that would be too taxing on low end computers. A simple on/off would be fine, but I am sure there will be more to it if something like that were to be added. hmm...

Don't really know how they are going to handle the airless or oxygen things in game, but it is a nice notion. For me I don't really need a reason to build, just inspiration; which comes from various things. I actually wouldn't mind having that airlock type of facility, but realistically it will probably be a simple process, or simplified so that it doesn't cause too much of a slow down. However that is not to say I wouldn't like to see it, it is more I would like to at least see it in some form or another. Ok I am getting a bit tired...
