Closed World data erased when my computer crashes

I game on a laptop which has the infuriating habit of hard-locking about once a day when I do anything remotely strenuous with it, like play a game. Normally this is nothing more than a waste of time as I have to reset it, but when my computer crashes while I'm playing Starbound there's a chance that my world and ship data will be completely reset. The character I was playing as is intact and everything in his inventory is exactly as I left it, but in all other ways it's like I just began the game. If I recall correctly this doesn't happen every time a crash occurs, although that might be because when I realized this was happening I gave up on making a permanent home and my only gauge of progress was my character's inventory, which is unaffected.

I apologize if I'm posting an already known bug, but if not then this is a serious problem. I expect crashes are more frequent for me than most people, but if this sort of thing can happen to other people then I can only imagine their anguish after investing goodness only knows how many days into a universe and probably their ship only to restart and find it all gone, to say nothing of the valuable tools and materials they just lost because they weren't carrying them. I tried copying my SHIPWORLD file for that character into another folder and then pasting it after another crash but the game seemed intent on using the reset file, unless the state of my universe is actually in the METADATA file, which I will experiment with next.

This happened to me just now. I had a massive base all with pressurized steel and those glyph lights. I was about 10 hours in until my game crashed. When I relogged my home planet was erased and reset. Lost everything. This has also happened to me once before.

I am currently using Hamachi just to play with my 2 brothers, though I plan to find a dedicated server soon because Hamachi is not all that great. I'm not sure if it's related to the random planet reset after a crash. I am prepared for the upcoming character wipe, but man, I wasn't prepared for this. This has really got me down.
