With which game would you fuse Starbound?

  3. Akado

    Akado Oxygen Tank

    Shin Megami Tensei.

You get to choose Law, Neutral, or Chaos, and all actions you take can change your alignment. You also get to talk with all enemies you encounter, but they probably just end up taking your lunch money and running away.

If they DO join you, you can fuse them together to create awesome new things, and then run around a destroyed Tokyo and hope that the resident tentacle beast isn't going to show up on his chariot.

The biggest reason why? Because these games have almost nothing in common, so it was the most absurd thing I could come up with.

The spaceship aspect of Starbound still confuses me. Why do I as a player have a spaceship, but only ever encounter small villages that are incapable of space-faring? Where are all the hive cities, trading outputs, space stations, tradefleets, warships, etc.

    Therefore, the games I'd join:

    Starflight III: http://www.starflight3.org/Home/Info
An undergoing sequel development to the originator of the generative space exploration genre from the 80s (I'm probably older than you)
It was really good at giving you reasons to explore random planets to find bits of monsters or materials to trade.

Victory By Any Means (VBAM): http://www.vbamgames.com/
A pen & paper & spreadsheet role-playing game of interplanetary expansion.
Good empire growth mechanics and streamlined but highly customizable orders/turn-based space combat

Not so much the best procedural generation as the most detailed. If you get a good look that the terrain, you start to realize much of it makes absolutely no sense.

But, DF would be awesome because it's the only game that procedurally generates backstory, then lets you be part of it, by fighting the Minotaur with 160 kills. It might need some work to really be as awesome as it could be in Starbound.

  8. Zody

    Zody Weight of the Sky

    No sense is best sense.
But seriously; yeah, I wasn't referring as much to the terrain as i was to the story/history elements. But it would be hillarious if SB generated monsters in the same manner as DF generates forgotten beasts, nothing like a planet populated by giant, three-eyed, winged, fire breathing pandas made of solid steel.

  9. Pseudoboss

    Pseudoboss Spaceman Spiff

Oh god, that would be AWESOME!
    Terrifying, but absolutely awesome.
You also forgot the Zombie Dust. Kills off your peripheral nervous system so you can't feel pain.
I'm still waiting for a game that implements DF combat mechanics in something less text-based.

If we implemented the same kinds of wackiness that DF does, suddenly you'll have people hunting down the right miniboss to turn you into a bandage-wrapped mummy-warrior that can't feel pain, add in a bit of Werebeast for the added regen, and become a vampire for the strength and agility buff. Mwahaha.

That would be even more screwed up in a game where you're not just an ASCII smile.

Starcraft 2, because RTSes and having Protoss and Siege Tanks and stuff like that in a Starboundlike game would be fun, or Half Life, because why the hell not?!

I'm in agreement with the issue of the hectic pace of DS, actually, despite my endorsement. The mechanics are interesting but always left me feeling like I'm just one step behind, one step from disaster, and that usually keeps me on the surface and at base camp.

  16. BushElito

I have no idea why, but
    TF2
    More specificly - Engineer.
And then you could go building contrapions that could do various things.
    Or go rocket jumper soldier.

  17. Lintton

    Lintton Guest

Dragon's crown (SAIL can play narrator, with procedural dungeons and biomes containing mighty bosses. Plus, The art style+character creation would be amazing.)

Or The Guardian Legend. You BECOME YOUR SHIP, for both space and ground combat fun! Fight your way back to Earth to deal with the tentacle menace!

Or if you want a multiplayer experience, I'd say take the fight to big ape or your most hated clan in the style of Armored Core 5, a squad vs. Squad combat with the ability for one to play mission operator.

  20. IvoryOwl

Witchmarsh, minus the multiplayer thingie and 2d avatar sprites (prefer the SB ones). I can't get over how awesome that game looked. But if that's not an option... then Baldur's Gate for sure.
