I need another starbound update, these publishing and these new game developments are boring into my brain. Gah. Now I have to go to work... I wonder why...
You are of course absolutely right. As was quantian: The forum does seem to be sour though, compared to previous posts. There are always those dedicated suckups who will defend until the end and those who have no concept of development at all and expect a product immediately. Perhaps I am even projecting my own feelings, however it does seem to me that the quality of the communication is poor and the attitude sucks. It wansn't long ago Tiy's post seemed to blame the community for expectations not being met. The beta was date moved a bit, but when it was released at the very end of 2013 I expected it to be a beta. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Beta This is an example of awful communication (Notch, pay attention here) - a beta is supposed to be feature complete. Starbound is not feature complete, it is not really a game yet in the traditional sense as progression is broken. In-fact more recently posts have suggested game-play will be nothing like this. Again this is a communication issue, Starbound is not a beta, it is a tech demo or an alpha. Starbound does have potential, but my expectations have been crushed - I now feel I have no idea what the game will be like or when it will be finished. I dont know if I will use these forums much in the future because I'm growing apathetic towards the whole thing and don't appreciate the spam chucklefish bundle in, - blatently lying infact that its an "update" I post these messages because I cared about Starbound, I bought 4 copies of the game because it sounded so promising and now I feel thoroughly let down.
In fairness, look at my posts - one of them even got Tiy annoyed enough to reply. Of all the things I would complain about, I don't think there is any inappropriate censorship going on here. If this was EA 1/2 the accounts on this forum would be locked.
It's a shame that it isn't going to be released until 2015. I would buy it now if I could. And we do need to chill. The fire of our rage was burnt the hands of 57 young squid.
Next week's post "Half life 3 + Progress report" Jk. Most of the comments seem negative, but some say the truth. We dont have daily updates and we know why, but we could have daily progress reports (with more 'Progress Report' stuff than this post hopefully). Not going off topic: yea, the game looks cool, I like the color style, and the music is very cool, one of the things I love of it are the procedurally generated planets, and the idea of having races with totally different building styles.
Daily progress reports would be great! Then I wouldn't have to unpack everyday to find any new Agaran content...
Sorry for causing a missunderstanding, my last comment was sarcastic (I thought that was clear). When I said this thread was a "bastion of Chucklefish-love" it was meant ironically.
If posts are being deleted because they break the rules, but deleting said posts causes accusations of censorship, how about compromising by editing the posts so that they don't break the rules? that'd be more effort, but that's sometimes what it takes.
Quite honestly I've seen multi-paragraph posts where if you removed anything breaking the forum rules all you'd be left with is 'update more' or 'chucklefish bad' or 'hate Molly'. If that's the case it gets binned, because hello low content posts that add nothing. If a post actually has worthwhile content we work within the rules, but normally if it's bad enough to get reported there's not going to be much salvageable when all is said and done.
My post earlier was as follows "The URL is playstarbound. Why can't they have another, separate, or maybe not so separate website for chucklefish news? I'm assuming it's because they want to cash in on the starbound fans and get them to invest in other games, which I am not going to support." and it was deleted for being "completely unnecessary and repetitive" even though the only thing repetitive about it was that I said again "The URL is playstarbound" everything else was constructive and follows every rule that I'm aware of, I'm not sure what made my post any more unnecessary than any other post. I'm not saying anyone is being censored, just that it seems the mods are very inconsistent.
Starbound is simply "End-of-life" (EOL) is a term used with respect to a product supplied to customers, indicating that the product is in the end of its useful life (from the vendor's point-of-view), and a vendor intends to stop marketing, selling, or sustaining it. (The vendor may simply intend to limit or end support for the product.) In the specific case of product sales, a vendor may employ the more specific term "end-of-sale" (EOS). The time-frame after the last production date depends on the product and relates to the expected product lifetime from a customer's point-of-view. Different lifetime examples include toys from fast food chains (weeks or months), cars (10 years), and mobile phones (3 years).
