All true, but the community does seem to be getting fed up of the quality of update. My concern is the attitude demonstrated by chucklefish seems to be that it isnt anything wrong on their part and there is nothing to moan about.
Is there? Tell me another indie team that has to deal with so many pepole and yet keeps their customers informed about them moving abroad.
haha, thats just silly. Tell me another indie team that imported their team from around the world - especially so late in the game. So the poor communication is the result of poor management? It does look like absolutely shockingly poor management to me, but in all fairness I cannot say this I know this. I do not know how awful the challenges were or what obstacles jumped out of nowhere. Also, is this an indie team? They have a studio and a publisher, if their publisher status is to be taken seriously then are they still indie - what makes indie - indie? That may not be completely fair, as chucklefish is not a real publisher - the games are paid-for by backers and the distribution is digital only - e.g. steam - whats left I can only assume is shared resources and marketing. Marketing seems to be that you can have your game advertised in place of a starbound update.
I've been really happy until now. I'm been getting more and more "ehm, really?" lately and can now understand why people are irritated. I still don't know what any un-related news have to do with this site. I am here for Starbound and not the previous two games which aren't my kind of games at all. They look like beautiful games but.... meh. Just keep that stuff to twitter, facebook, reddit and not here :s?
Hey guys, just wanted to say i have played Starbound, Risk of Rain and Wanderlust and had a great time with all of them (still have). Looking forward to new publications by Chucklefish! And good thing CF posted the news on their main (and at the time only) website or i might have missed great games. Keep up the good work! (can we have planet to planet teleporters in SB, please? stargate-style exploration would be kind of fun)
Except we don't know this. Members of a forum are not indicative of the community as a whole. There are many people who play games, who never look at their official forums. An example is Child of Light. There's like five threads about that game on Ubisoft forums. totally roughly 100 posts There's upwards to 700 threads for the same game on gamefaqs 1000s on Miiverse And well into hundreds of posts about it on Neogaf Without numbers we can't say people are fed up, we can't say the community at large is eccstatic about everything, we can't even say that the community at large is just like 'meh'
Witchmarsh looks like a great game. I like the graphics, type (platformer), and the story. Platformers are my second favorite genre of game, but there are two kinds of plat former that I really love. There is action, like the Metroid Series, which are generally challenging but fun to play. Then there are story games, like Cave Story, that don't have the best gameplay, but have amazing story lines that make the game like an interactive book. If Witchmarsh can fit both of those aspects into one game, then you can prepare to get money from me!
Actually been into Dark Souls 2 for a while now and while I do frequent the forums, my life doesn't depend on Starbound. I love the art and visuals of the game, but I also feel that nearly every criticism of Chucklefish in this thread is justified one way or another. I'm not even sorry for those that get upset by rational objections regarding their work ethic, been waiting for solid updates since January and stopped playing in March. Apparantly thick and fast updates have been canned, leaving me to wonder when the game will actually come out of the first stage of Beta.
Well It's not like they made that post instead of working on the game for the past week. If you had their voice, wouldn't you advertise games you feel deserve such attention? As for indie, it means indipendent. They don't have anyone telling them what to do aside from their customers.
Oh gosh, I spent about a month playing nothing but dark souls 2. Now, I normally don't play very many games, maybe like 5-8 hours a week tops, but dark souls 2 consumed my life and my soul for a solid month. I'm burnt out on it now though.
However, financial support WILL take away from the game. If any of these developers tank, Chucklefish takes losses. It isn't as much as if they banked a higher percentage from the companies for publishing, but it will still be a loss for a young company. While these games have their own kickstarters, more then likely there is some form of financial support - if there's not, it kind of makes some of the agreement non-sensible. You see, that's the funny thing. When I was introduced to Risk of Rain, it was by Totalbiscut, and I loved how it looked. When I saw them on the starbound page, I was a touch confused, but it's still a good game. I love it, and I think the developer did a great job. I don't think seeing it here had any more effect on me then if I had seen a paid advertisement on the sidebar. I'm not quite aware that they've had any transparency from the funding sources for starbound. If there is, I'm not sure where it is. Beside that point, even if the bulk of the game is funded through kickstarter, they've hitched their wagon to this project. Chuckefish now has to gamble their reputation on that project, so if it runs into money problems, the only thing they can really do is fund it. And lets face it - over half the indie projects out there run into the fund-wall. Most are killed by it. I've been in that position, where private funding ran out. There is literally nothing you can do, except drive yourself deeper in debt or try and work on it as a side project. I hope this was sarcasm. Unless you want "Captain Microtransaction" to make a mighty visit to your pocketbook. I hate to be the devil's advocate here, but there's something I learned early on when developing games, and web games in particular: People are more likely to post negative opinions then positive. What does this mean? As a developer, many of the requests you get are the vocal minority complaining about something they want changed, while the majority are alright with it or dont care.(Rebalancing mechanics, doubly so) Always catering to the loudest screaming child will make that child scream even louder. Now, mind you, this is different then what we're seeing here. There are some times where you need to admit when your wrong, and you're right - we kinda hit that point a while ago. I'll take a line from a stress management course, and leave it here. You can't change anyone else. You can only change how you react to them.
It's rather obvious that the mods censor posts that say something negative about Chucklefish, just look at what a bastion of Chucklefish-love this thread is.
Yes and its made me realize that I dont want this type of thing anymore. Lost my trust in early access (lots of games led to this not just starbound)
Yeah, thats not the case. We've only deleted posts of people getting too angry, off-topic, or that mod-edit that was more tongue in cheek than anything. If you want to talk about censorship, PM me or something, this isn't the thread for it.
I do love that the screenshot that people keep trying to post about mods censoring posts or being biased or a shadowy cabal or whatever is a post by Brawww, a mod, in which I, another mod, edit the word smartass to dumbass and then sign the edit. I mean honestly if that's the worst someone can find to suggest we're all awful then I think we're doing ok.
Reallly??? Come on Guys You dont post anything In a week only to tell us about ANOTHER game... Disappointed
In a lot of ways, Wichmarsh looks more fleshed out than Starbound. Gorgeous too. Reminds me of the old Monkey Island games.
