I'm currently in need of circuit that will activate a timer upon pressing a button and then send a signal once the timer's countdown is done. Preferably something more compact that just an enormous row of delay gates, considering how little time customization these allow. I have tried one 5-second countdown timer connected to a 1-second timer, then to connect them both to an XOR gate, but this occasionally sends a signal prematurely at the beginning of the countdown, since the 5-second countdown is activated just a tick earlier. Are there any other solutions?
i assume you have the countdown timers wired in sequence as opposed to parallel (wire the switch only to the 5 and the 5 only to the 1 and the 1 only to the end device (or swap the 1 and 5 in this if you do the 1 first)). and just get rid of the XOR switch. that way, the 5 activates the 1 which activates the device. assuming you want a 6 sec delay. alternatively, since you seem to want something that's not going to clutter up your base's walls too badly, you might check out http://community.playstarbound.com/resources/macrochip-stable-glad-giraffe.3420/ .
I've already figured it out! All it really took to remove the glitch from my initial attempt was to wire the initial signal source to both XOR input slots.
ah, well cheers then . but the part with the macrochip mod still applies for not having enormous rows of logic gates if you don't want them
