RELEASED WIP: The Viera of Ivalice 0.3.2

The Viera of Ivalice have fled to the stars

Thank you both for your very kind words of encouragement. It means a lot to know that so many appreciate what I’ve done so far. I hope to really add to the Viera experience and provide a lovely place to dream for you all :)

Recent progress: I’ve tried to narrow my focus yet again on perfecting the Viera animations and providing new and updated gear sets for the new animations I’ve worked at. I’m almost done perfecting their body animations and at present I’ve been working at a new leg animation for swimming. Hoping to wrap that up today. I’ve sprited tons of new samples for racial outfits that players will be able to pick from at the beginning, and I’m aiming to provide lots of extras that can be discovered via recipe thereafter. Since they’ll have a new, custom body, they’ll need lots of clothes to make up for it. My progress may remain somewhat sluggish until the beginning of spring, so I’m not going to set any content update dates. As it is I have a lot of other new, and promised features that I’ve half finished, things that you all have been waiting for ages for. I hope to bring it all to you in game this year.

A big thanks to all of you for your continued support! The Viera have even reached over twenty-one thousand subscribers on Steam, and it’s all thanks to all of you who have stuck with me over the years. Thank you all for believing in me and my work.

I have found a REALLY strange glitch with the "Escort" / "Save them!" NPCs:
They generate with no clothes, resulting in just the base character sprites being rendered.

The quest was given to me by a tenant.

I have managed to recreate this glitch several times in a row (happens with the female Veena/Rava Viera- currently haven't confirmed if the glitch also happens with males, or either gender of Feol Viera), even after reinstalling the mod.

Edit related to the screenshot: The green, fine print's outdated- I have released the Moogle racemod. Check my profile if you're interested in checking it out, kupo!

LOL I think I know why this is happening. It's because I separated the Viera into different species x_x I'll look into fixing the issue! Also, that's so cool that you're working on a moogle race! They've been highly requested over the years, but I've had my hands full with the Viera. Can't wait to see your progress!

Hello. I adore your mod and I have been playing with it for hours already. Surprised it never occurred to me, before, to search for Final Fantasy-themed mods for this game. I am in heaven. <3

    I belatedly realized that the (gorgeous!) ship should have come with a pet chocobo. I am running a mod (Purchasable Pets) that removes default ship pets, instead allowing the player choose a pet by purchasing a spawner item from Infinity Express. Therefore, of course, I have no access to the chocobo unless I want to disable this mod. I love my novakid's siamese rabbit, sooo.... ;o;

It is not a gamebreaking issue by any means; I just wanted to explain in case you hadn't encountered this problem before. (I did go through the thread as much as I could, searching keywords, but didn't find a post quite along these lines. I have a brutal headache, though, so might have missed something.)

Thank you, thank you so much, for all the work and love you have put into this project. I am so delighted and impressed.

I'm so glad you enjoy playing Starbound with this mod ^_^ It means a lot to know others enjoy the work I've done so far.

I'm actually aiming to rework the ship's pet chocobo in an interesting way. I'm not entirely sure how long it may take me to accomplish what I've thought up, but I may also be able to provide a work around for use with Purchasable Pets. It hadn't occurred to me that there could be oddities in conjunction with it x_x So sorry for that.

You're welcome, I'm so happy you appreciate this mod. Thank you very much for the kind compliments! It means a lot :)

Unsure if this is intended or not, but if a non-Viera player spawns in the woodworking table (or obtains one from another player,), they can't craft anything from it unless they have Admin Hax mode on.

I suspect this may be caused by all the recipes being in the viera.species file instead of adding those furniture/block recipes via patching the player.config file.

Having a small problem-- I can't find the Tier 6 A armor in the accelerator D: I have solarium, and it appears on the other 2 Tier 5/6 crafting stations (I made all 3 to make sure)-- How do I unlock the recipes?

  8. AmazonValkyrie

    AmazonValkyrie Spaceman Spiff

Yeah that was intentional. I didn’t feel like non-Viera characters would possess knowledge of their recipes. I’ll either reverse this in the future or provide an acquirable recipe book that will allow other races to learn them.

Sorry about the trouble. I’ll take a look at the armor recipes and see what’s up.

Thanks for clarifying that it was actually intentional- that blank list was confusing me, as I was used to stuff like being able to make Avali stuff on their workbenches since they allowed anyone to craft their stuff, as long as they found the right Avali workbench (from another player or spawned in a village), even though my player is a Moogle and DEFINITELY wouldn't know how to make their stuff.

Having a recipe book to unlock them all like the old tech upgrades in early Beta would be neat, having a middle ground between the original "Completely Viera Exclusive" mode that is currently in and "Everyone can make it automatically, like it was second nature".

Some of the vanity clothes (such as the White and Red mage outfits) can't be dyed, but others (like the Fencer and Casual outfits and the silk scarf) can. Is this a bug? I was really looking forward to running around in a purple red mage outfit c=

This is my favorite Starbound mod and I keep coming back to it because playing a Viera is so entertaining.

Currently only a handful of Viera armors can be dyed. I’m slowly working at changing this for the armor sets.

Thank you Amazon, this mod is absolutely beautiful. A lot of work and love has clearly been put into it, from the style of the transporter and SAIL (which after you've played as much as me has become all-too familiar on many races, modded included), to the work put into making them a unique play experience.

I was reading through the progress of this mod (which has been impressive over the past few months, if I'm reading correctly!) and I wanted to give a quick comment:
I absolutely agree with the Viera having their recipes innately, but I also agree with other races being able to earn the recipes. Perhaps through a mini-quest in which they gain the blessing of the Wood, perhaps through the salve-maker's rite of catching the rare and elusive Vorpal Bunny, or something similar. Would be fairly fitting with the mod's feel thus far ^^

Hmm, this may be due to Amazon having changed things, but I don't think it is, as both now, and the last time I was active (wow, nearly a year ago) picking up the Vieran blocks would grant the recipe for that block, to non-Vierans.

I recall using this with multiple characters to make constructing easier/more organized, since the foundation guy only knew the bocks I'd use for overall structure, the special rooms guy was for non-standard rooms, and the windows guy got a smattering of bocks that looked good (to me) as window dressing.

Allso, yes, I'm aware im responding to fairly old messages, but I figure "meh, I'm helping".

Posting some progress notes because it's been a while x_x

The past month or so I've dedicated time on the Viera to building a planet/biome that is perfect for them. I've drawn most of my art inspiration from Golmore Jungle in FFXII, and can't wait to show it to all of you! I decided to do this so that I could recreate the look of Eruyt Village in XII, and there are no biomes or planets in vanilla that match it. This allows me to dictate everything that spawns on the planet, and eliminates any competing spawn locations. What I mean by that is, that if I had used a vanilla biome/planet, any structure that I create for that would then compete with other vanilla dungeons and microdungeons, and could greatly diminish the chances of Viera structures spawning. This also allows me to dot the planet's surface with completely new, fresh and Viera specific microdungeons, eventually familiar creatures that spawn, but more importantly I can finally set up villages the way they were intended.

I have been hard at work at creating even more dynamic objects to build beautiful villages, and interesting microdungeons with, and am working at wrapping that up so that I can--finally--put it all together. I honestly keep adding things to my list, because there's never enough objects lol :p I've also been working at updating some old armors in preparation for the new Viera body, and providing dye and gender support for them, which was much needed. I would like to have the new body and a majority of it's clothing all ready to go when I wrap up villages and the lot, but that will definitely take me more time if I do so. Armors take the bulk of my work load when I tackle them, and due to my ideas about the acquisition of the first three prospective job armors, it may take more work than just creating them. Also with these tiered job armors comes the need for viable weaponry for each. Allll in good time though.

I’m sure many of you are also wondering about the ship. It’s still floating along in limbo as a work in progress. I keep making decisions about it, then changing my mind. It’s been a struggle because I want it to not only match the aesthetic of Ivalice, but also be a reflection of the Viera themselves. I will return to work on it, so don’t worry ^_^

I don't want to make any promises at all, because as many of you know I'm not always the best at meeting deadlines I set x_x I do really want to wow you all with these new changes and additions that are on the horizon. Perhaps when I get villages built, I may provide a nice little preview for all of you as a teaser. I feel very positive about all of my work as a whole now, and I'm very glad that I'm working at making the Viera more accurate to their lore. I've still gotta ways to go, but I'm very glad that you all are still along for the journey. Until next time!

    Progress Notes:

Alllllll of the new objects I've been working on the past several months have finally been added to Tiled, so I can FINALLY start building. Honestly though, I keep thinking of objects to make and add. It takes a lot to make a world that looks lived in. Not only will I be building villages and microdungeons for the new planet type, but I'll be designing custom terrain features with the tiles. What I didn't realize in Vanilla is that not only did the developers have to map out areas where NPCs spawn and objects or conventional tiles are placed, but they even designed every bit of the terrain. I'm happy for this because I can create a full landscape that is my own. The interior decorator in me gets to come out and play ;P

Over this weekend, which was my birthday, I completely remade the Salve Maker armor for the new body! It was one of the very first armor sets I ever sprited five years ago O_O Now it's been updated and in my opinion is leaps and bounds ahead of it's original. The recolors were also reworked and based on various appearances of the outfit through the promo artwork and random Viera encounters in FFXII. The recolors of the outfit will also be used for various wayfaring Viera that you'll find scattered across the universe. After all, not all Viera prefer to hide away in forests. I also pulled from the newer promo artwork of Eruyt Village (see picture one below) depicting Viera Salve Makers and Wood Warders to create a headpiece for the outfit. It's shaped metal circlet that fits around the ears, and in the artwork it's stunning, just as most of the ornate gear they wear is.

Anyway, I have to construct a male version of the chest piece for the armor set, and I'm creating a version with alternate arms today. The alt version is using the depiction of Salve Makers in very early Tactics Advance art:
I'm planning to use this look with the wrist sashes to be the garb of Salve Makers who venture out of the village and are found scattered across the planet's surface under the tree canopy. Players will be able to come across them journeying through the Wood with Wood Warders at their side, scouting areas of the surface. Salve Maker villagers will wear the conventional garb without the wrist sashes, so you'll know how to tell them apart.

Once I've wrapped up the male chest piece and this version with alt arms, I'll be moving on to recreating the Wood Warder garb. Why am I choosing these to update first? Well I knew I had to have spawning Viera on the planet's surface, and going hand in hand with lore, I had to use the Salve Makers and Wood Warders. They are apart of a sacred order of the Viera, fulfilling jobs that benefit their society as a whole. It's about time they were fleshed out in this mod as varying NPC types to show the player just who they are. I also needed to update the armor sets for the upcoming new body anyway, so I figured now was as good of a time as any. I definitely aim to bring them more into focus in the future by setting up quests with them as well. It would be a good way of allowing the player to explore Viera society and a wonderful method of teaching the player certain recipes, perhaps even allow the player to join their order. We'll see with time ^_^

Sorry I haven't uploaded any pics of the new, updated version. If you all are really craving a teaser for it, perhaps I'll record a gif and show it off. I love surprising people though, so I hope whenever I show it off that you all will be pleased!

    Until next time!

See, here's the difference between Hype-Dev Conversation, and in-depth conversation over development.

I could be extremely patient with not seeing content, as Valkyrie vividly explains in detail what she's doing, and all of the progression and doubling-back and editing she goes through. She doesn't pull any punches, or try to hide anything. She flat out states what is what, and at least walks you through what's happening. I'm extremely happy to have encountered this mod, and am perfectly fine with the progress and dedication that has been committed to this project.

Whereas I've got other games (and mods for this game that I've tried) that have been worked on, and yet don't even touch anymore because things get horribly broken by lack of attention to game-breaking issues, while folks tout "We've fixed everything, it's so much better now!" with vibrant kill-me-neon banners. -sigh-

Keep up the great work, it's great to hear from you, and the explanations of your work and progress paint rather clear and effective visuals in my mind to track and follow along with. The gaming industry could learn a thing or two from you.

And lets not even talk about how much more fleshed out the race already feels compared to the other race mods, or even vanilla races. Its really all of the small touches that bring life to a people, not just what tiles they use to construct with, or what their armor looks like, or how they speak. Theres so much more to a race that can easily be added to the vanilla races. We dont even get interesting combos like the Wood Warders and Salve Markers. We just get random npc number 438 with a gun.

Even from the start, this mod was out of the blue too. Like you could tell care was going into it. It wasnt just another reskin mod, or w/e. It bled with potential, and still does. Its refreshingly nice to see it slowly coming together, even now :3

(WHAT IM SAYING IS, VALK, YOU DONT NEED FOOD AS BADLY AS YOU THINK YOU DO! You got this >:V Just gotta take out that mob spawner, snag the rune, drop a potion boom on the next two spawners and hit that exit marker >:3)

Configuring various NPC types for villages and other upcoming Viera locales. So far I've completed various versions of salve-maker, and wood-warder NPCs, along with one specific for wayfaring Viera that you'll find out in the universe outside of villages. Dialogue has been completed for a Viera village elder/leader, who is also awaiting custom gear that befits her role. In the future I aim to have her be affiliated with quests, but this'll be a good start for her for now. Ive finished updating the salve-maker and wood-warder armors which now have color options, and functionality for both genders. These are now worn by various Viera NPCs of each respective warren. Since the wood-warders and salve-makers each have a chief of their group, I'll be constructing slightly different armor pieces for them to be distinctive. These NPC types will also bear quest lines that introduce the player to their respective group and provide the player with blueprints for their crafting tables and more (once I get new recipes and items created). I also need to create various, basic merchants with distinctive gear, but they miiiight just begin wearing a place holder armor set for now. I honestly still have a good bit of work ahead of me before I'll feel comfortable updating the mod. I want to include the new Viera body with the next build, which means a bit more time must be spent to ensure the best experience for players.

Quick update on more progress notes. The past few days I’ve been creating and animating the Vorpal bunny. Fans of Ivalice will hopefully be excited by this addition. If you’re unfamiliar, the Vorpal Bunny is hunted by Salve-makers as rite of passage for their kin. It’s tail creates an oil that is siphoned by Salve-makers to craft vision dust, and vision dust is the concoction used to hide Viera villages. Players will eventually be able to track down the Vorpal Bunny and make vision dust so that they can enter Viera villages. I may provide vision dust as part of the ship’s starter treasure, but ultimately I want the player to learn the way of the Salve-maker to craft it themselves once I can work out the quest line.

Do ya mean like a version that’s not in .pak form? If so, you could subscribe to the steam version of the mod and edit the contents from there, or if you search on this forum “how to successfully unpack files” you’ll find a very easy tutorial to unpack the .pak file. Hope that helps, if that is what you’re asking ^_^
