So I played this for a while.

At last we can mine with matter manipulator, but speed of mining needs some tweaks and earlier, cheaper upgrade. Mining itself takes time and more things need to happen in the underground, more treasures, mini biomes, events. So we mine with our cool futuristic tool but when it comes to lightning options we are stuck with torches and lantern stick. Lantern stick is still only equipable light source and it sucks beyond any reason, I expected mining helmets and some cool futuristic items and techs to light my way underground, but still nothing happened here, torches, lanterns, yellow stim pack that will run quite fast and is expensive. Ores are deep underground but there is no ore detector in game, so still in a distant future no one invented ore detectors. Core fragments and erchius crystals are not used for anything after fixing the ship.

Fuel system is nice, but the way of getting fuel is not so good, its finite and I can see problems on a crowded server when people will just clear the moons out of any fuel. You can buy it, but its expensive and I still prefer to spend pixels for something else.

New universe and techs to protect player from hazards like cold heat and radiation is bad. You could have the same effect reducing the range of the ship to one system and allowing players to travel further after upgrading the ship. With current hazard protection the hazards don't exist at all, you just turn protection on and you are fine, and when you find some town/village on planet with high radiation? Seems like they can live there without any protection.

Gates to outpost in every system are LAME, who build all of that and what was the purpose for connecting whole universe to that one outpost? That doesn't make any sense. Quests in the outpost are horrible. Every single one of them was horrible. They don't create any kind of story, and I saw better quests in some MMO games.

Ship upgrades are nice beside the fact that after upgrading to highest level your pilot seat is placed very far away from cockpit.

Still not enough of high tech futuristic items, not a sing of starport that would be able to launch a ship into space. Not enough of futuristic items, no story at all.

Waiting for next update, but at this point I don't expect much.

Agree with hazards and quests, both seem to be tied together very sloppily, but kinda disagree with the rest.

Such negativity is kinda strange, seeing as they just hapened to revamp completely, several aspects of the game, especialy progression, but whatever.

Forgot to mention planets. They all consist mostly of dirt sand and stone. All are more or less shaped in a way you can walk over surface without much problems.
What happened with other minerals, metals? Where is marble, granite, basalt and many many others?
I dig to the center of the planet only to find wooden spikes or stone spikes, how creative. All planets are mostly the same in looks and materials they are build from.
Where are some mad planets that are made from glass and diamonds? Where is variety in exploration?

How many planets have ya been in?

Cause the planets I got, were anything but easily walk-able, with some serious cliffs, ravines and such.Bad Rng on ya, unfortunately.

Marble, Granite and Basalt?never recall those stones existing as actual items, yet if you refer to the varieties of coblestone, they are simply in the deeper layer.Different planets have different stones, and the rock bottom seems to varry aswell, from what Ive seen.

You haven't found anyting interesting at the core or around it?Shame, I found some Avian rooms, filled with burial urns and cakets, and a Apex construction of some sort, looked like a square monkey face, it actualy quite suprised me, as I was near a pile of water, and being the monkey head filled with poison, soon enough a gigantic cavern of poison was created.Quite fun.

Ever seen the Alien Biomes, and the geometric biomes?Quite refreshing, being the Alien one, my favorite.

It would apear you have had very bad RNG, which unfortunately, can indeed hinder the quality of the game.

Actually what happened to asteroid fields? I haven't seen any, but I haven't gotten around to visit many systems yet. Are they still in the game at all?

Believe not, werent working verry well with the system, got removed till remaking.

Different names of dirt, like wet dirt, corrupted dirt, dry sand, wet sand, its not variety its just making names for useless things. There are dark planets without breathable atmosphere, here only moons have that. I saw all the biomes they still consist of very well know material that can be found anywhere on planet earth. As for the avian and other dungeons I saw them to, some Floran dungeons are nice. Still the planet from planet doesn't have anything fresh most of the time, and most of them are just generic, and most of them have breathable atmospheres, and its lame. Weather is also quite generic in most cases.

Dirt, wet dirt, corrupted dirt, dry sand, wet sand, all difrent items, that are used, be it in terrain generation, or by builders. Not useless, just not helpfull to you.

Biomes consisted of normal materials would be logical. But even then, you have stuff like Alien Biomes in Unstable, where you indeed have absolutely new materials, not found on earth.Just saying.

Not all planets need to be unique, and I think, doing so, would be either a mistake, or next to impossible.Breathable atmospheres are something that most big plannets have, cause its actualy logical for it to be so.Ya know, basic science stuff, moons are too small, and have almost no gravity, cant keep gasses in their orbit, so no atmosphere.

I dont get your weather complaint...ould you like for there to be raining fish, or something of that kind?If thats waht you wih, id agree, but weather being dull is kind of, normal.
Rain aint exciting, it aint meant to be.

There are plenty of planets without breathable atmosphere. Maybe it's just that every damn nanosuit provides O2 so it stops being relevant.

And yeah I don't recall different kinds of materials like the ones mentioned here ever being in the game. I mean, there are mushroom blocks, tar blocks, slime blocks, clay blocks, flesh blocks... those are the ones from the top of my head. But no marble or basalt of any of those minerals.

And weather... I'm not so sure about that. I mean yeah, those are pretty much things that are observable on earth and the more exotic ones like smaller glowing meteorite showers and firestorms are mere spectacles. But is that such a bad thing? I once saw a gigantic meteor falling down right in front of me. The shockwave almost caught me and in the wake of the impact there were meteorite blocks everywhere in the big ass crater it left. That was on a volcanic planet. Meteor showers are a bit generic, but that was terrifying and awesome at the same time! It's also sheer luck that the character survived that.

Bingo. I keep seeing this on these boards, and it's kind of ridiculous.

Starbound is also a creative-building game, and as such, a wide variety of visuals is key. Not every aspect of this game needs to have a unique, "tangible" combat-related use. And frankly, with how simple it is to put these things into the game, I'd be more upset if they DIDN'T have a wide variety of block aesthetics.

Hah, I actualy forgot about something, but it was so awesome.

Racing a Meteor Storm in the Moon, just a Floran, racing around agains the falling Meteors, in almost no gravity, was awesome.

The glowing dust rain was hapening too, I think, it was just so awesome to play through.

Eventualy, I crashed against a meteor that instakilled me, but hey, what can ya do?

I just thought the gates were built by an ancient race, hence the scribble that is crossed out on the portal piece. Soon they either left, died off or it was the new races that scrawled their heads on the gate to insight a new beginning. To form a Union of sorts in this other dimension that they live out of the fray of the universe. A pocket dimension per say, but livable.

Really that part was something that caught my eye in the first post. Since there are some things in the game that do not need a full explanation, and could be left up to the players to imagine or formulate what might have happened. If not speculate to that point, as I see plenty of that around about other things. Anyway at the moment the only clue is the portal itself having an empty spot. Whether that is an actual clue or not is subjective, but leaves at least myself to wonder and create my own interpretation of it.

Unless there is more leading to that conclusion, but have not seen otherwise. Sometimes it is good to let the players construct their own idea of what might be going on or is apparent or even make conclusions on what they think might be a clue to this or that. If everything in a game is explained to a T; then that leaves a lot less for a creative mind. Well less in that respective item.

Granted the opposite is true which is why quite a few things are shown or explained... Not all yet, as I am sure there is more coming from their sleeves. :)

Gates that connect few systems are nice as long as you can find sings of that ancient civilization that build them on the planets in that system. Here all gates are connected to one piece of rock and gate exist in every system, its not viable to build a gate in every system in the whole universe for any civilization no matter how advanced it was. Its just simple way out of outpost access that is LAME. Outpost itself is lame, NPCs in there don't provide any story or clues why that outpost was created and what is the purpose of it, and still you can see there NPCs in ancient armors. If it is trading station again there is no sings of villages/towns on planets that are able to launch spaceships so the existence of trading station have 0 sense.
If you are creating universe make it believable! Writing few lines of lame codex will not help here.

While I agree, with the Outpost being beyond boring, and its NPCs bland( seriously, If I think a safe haven, wich is implied by the ex-USMC prisionr, I think a massive compound, with Dorms, Mech Bays, energy shields to deal with meteors, and way more than just a Infinity Express and a Terramart), the original race seem to be somewhat powerfull enough to have made so many gates.

The shops there seem to be more towards the residents anyhoo, o thinking its for trading is a bit odd.

If the "Precursors" could indeed make a entire race of robots for the single purpose of simulating the creation of civilizations, then Im quit sure they could make enough gates.Though, honestly, all I want is a direct link to the Outpost, just give me a teleport option.

The lore is missing, hence why he niverse makes so little sense. They dont want to restrict themselves till they have baseline universe, assest, and races, and all that jazz, otherwise, Lore can either become somewhat incompatible with the universe, or severely restrict them.

However, there is a big hole in the plot. Why did they build the gates after all when they were so awesome and clever? Even inferior races were able to develop the FTL-engine, so it is logical that they had even better space ships.

The motive why a gate is better than a space ship is the transport capacity (goods and persons). That's why the Romans build their streets directing to Rome and other big colonies. Streets are ways which connect major trading centers, capital cities and other big, important spots. Gates also can transport a huge amount of persons in short time, without the help of bigger ships.

The ouptost is so tiny that it has nothing which you couldn't transport with your own ship; and the amount of people is low, so no would want to travell arount in a remarkeable group. The only explanation could be that the outpost is the rest of what was once the homeworld of the lost civilization which was ripped apart long ago. An easy, but also cheap explanation. It's also an extreme strategic problem, as anyone can travell through the gates - like enemies. No government would let it's own world be so unprotected and attacked from so many positions.

If we stay by the theory that it was a planet owned by the 8th race, but not their homeworld, it could've been only another place very important to them. But what? We encounter the same problem: if there was an important trade center, it would've been raided easily. A religious center would've been sacked by heretics or vandals. A research center? No, these have to be secret.

All in all, I went through different possibilities, but all in all - from a writer's look - every explanation for the history of this place is rather unsatisfying.

Well, for one, the Outposts are still incomplete. There's still selling your items to be implemented, more items for sale on Infinity Express (mr. Oxy McCoy says he gon'buy himself some guns and a sneaky bottle of automato juice), and at least one more shop (that salesman mounted on a weird creature).
Also I thought that was a single gate. It was mentioned I don't remember where (seriously, playing a novakid is messing with my brain) that the outpost exists in another dimension. Those gates might as well be some quantic defying phenomenon, existing in several places and in one place at the same time. It's like Schrödinger's cat, you know? The cat who is alive and dead at the same time in a paradoxical exercise made by Erwin Schrödinger?

    yclatious Guest

Question, couldn't the gate exist in multiple areas, at the same time?

If we are talking Schröndinger, untill it was within physical contact, or observable, coudnt it simply be, I dunno, a hologram? The idea of a object, being within two possible conditions until observable, either present, or a ilusion of it?

That way, only 1 gate would be needed, it would just teleport to its various locations, in case of need.

Because the thing is: how the heck people get out of the outpost then? If it's a bajillion gates all over the universe, how would it know were you came from and send you back there without fail? Does it show the coordinates of the gate you came from? So your character implicitly inputs them each time he uses the outpost gate? I assume then that this superior race uses the same navigating system as the rest of the others. It smacks of Reapers to me...
Yeah we need more lore on that.

I think the devs also mentioned that those won't be the only gates in the game. There were plans for gates linking different planets together, so you could travel between them without the ship.

Also, I still stand by my hypothesis that those people inside the sci-fi low gravity pyramid dungeons are related to this advanced race, if they are not it themselves. I mean, they look like Glitch but their heads are different and they speak of punishing me in the name of Kluex. So what are them? Genetically modified Avians? Glitch who adhered to Kluex's religion somehow? Or are they something else entirely?

Making gates across whole universe for every system is not possible, universe is changing constantly, stars die off planets are destroyed by comets, there are black holes its not stable, we see universe in one point of time. Many space things are missing form starbound universe. The one most important question is why anyone would want to connect whole universe to that one outpost, there is nothing interesting in that outpost, its just a rock with few shops on it. Space stations concept was much better than that....

Agreed, we need Lore, too bad its gonna take a while for it to come.

Well, some Lore Codices of Avian origin reference some sort of Spy Satelites, possibly of Apex Origin, perhaps these Avians have been brainwashed/indocrinated by the "Voice of Kluex"?

Thinking Brotherhood of Steel kind of stuff, recruit individuals who are amazed by technology (possibly , a strike from heaven by Cluex, disguised as a Ortbital Strike from a satelite?) and formed a super religious covenant or something, and so tehy guard these "temples".

Like I said, whos says its not the same gate, that just materializes itself when you come to one of its points?

It can teleport itself to various coordinates in the universe, and when one individual requires its use, it materializes in the location its needed.

While Space Station would be quite a interesting thing, I believe the only reason that isnt in the update, was mostly just not having done it before.

Speaking realistically, they have delayed that update for quite a while, I think they will either expand quite a bit on the Outpost, or later on scrap it in favor of space stations.
All I want is a damm Mech Bay...
