will you RP as your character while you play online.

im a big fan of Roleplaying and seeing all the options you have for decorating your environment, I would like to know how many people will be rping with others while they play.

per say, seeing the new penal colony dungeon( assuming its a dungeon), might open the chance for premade Cops-and-Robbers style Roleplay areas.

now, will there be Local and global chats? if so, then there could be less confusion and possibly secrecy to conversations. I know there is going to be squad chats and other things, but that doesn't change my questions.

on another subject, I once intertained the idea of a dedicated server for the Corporations sub-forum here on starbound. though I have strayed away from corporations I still hope that small or large roleplaying servers pop up across the galactic map once the game starts up. and if so, I would give one suggestion if your doing a more text based roleplay. dont even think of making those kind of servers into PVP, seeing as the only place that can be destroyed on those kind of servers are spaceships.

RPs can occur on planets, but the only places a place that is suposed to stay the same and be a static point for many RPs should be home-worlds( wich I believe are indestructible to a degree..unless its the owner or people who are approved by the owner.)

Lastly in this nonsensical ramble, I would like to ask who your character might be and do you have any story or idea of how your going to play them?

 

I don't plan on roleplaying. My character will probably be human and have whatever backstory the intro gives to him/her.

 

awww, but thats so boring... in a game with so many options for costumization and dressing your character, how can you not making a little story for them.

give your world themes, build up a city, allow others to live in that city. its a big galaxy, you should use it to the full extent.

 

I definitely look forward to RPing, though I'd prefer to find a server that doesn't force/expect people to play part of its own story (for example, a server dedicated to a certain type of RP that everyone's expected to participate in). I'd much rather be able to jump on and RP with the people I want to RP with. For that reason, depends on how connectivity will be when the game comes out, I might not even join a server right away and instead play with friends. Hopefully when Starbound comes out on Steam there'll be an option to simply join other people's games (joining their game will result in playing in their universe, ideally). If not, I'll have to look into somehow running a server (something I've never done before and not quite sure I could do) or get a friend to run one for me... which wouldn't be ideal, obviously.

TL;DR yes, I look forward to RP very much I've already gotten quite a few of my friends excited for Starbound, and we look forward to space adventures!

 

It depends.

I used to love rp'ing in WoW but that wasn't a 24hr. thing, it was only when everyone wanted to RP and as soon as we got tired of it we would go back to normal speak lol. Since the Glitch's lore says they're stuck in the medieval era I might rp as a chaotic neutral type like The Hound from Game of Thrones as he's definitely one of my more favorable characters on the show. I can also go the route of the liberated glitch that has no era limitation and I can just be modern me.

It's all up in the air right now, but it would be fun

I plan to play a Floran. She'll be a nice, curious person who's interested in human culture and will be generally helpful... until she gets hungry. She needs an almost constant source of food or she begins to turn more savage due to hunger. The hungrier she gets, the most desperate and violent. But as long as she's well fed she's fine

 

I really agree with you, I really have trouble finding servers that I can fit into and I really hope I have better luck with this game on all fronts.
do you have any character planned out? I am using one mabye two so far.
1: my main character, ALaizia Robin Lorrimore, whom is on my profile picture. She is an engineer ...but I dont know alot about humans in this game so I havent got a great backstory.
and 2 is Misha, a apex female who was the daughter of one of the miniknog's ministers of propaganda...who subsequently turned to the rebellion after learning about something her father did.

i play pathfinder with sum friends, i would love to RP in starbound but thanks to the dislexier its just a dream.

When I played the Game at Insomnia49, there was a planet with trees that had Eyeball Fruit on them.The Description said something about it being poisonous to everything but Florans, so you could incorporate that into your character whilst RPing.

But my Two RPs are a Robot that escaped its home planet straight after birth/construction and is now exploring. And a Hylotl who is the greatest Samurai/Warrior on her home planet and left in search of new challenges for her to kill.

Both are shown in my Profile Picture.

 

It's not about my story, it's about the story presented to me. I'm a very logical person and creativity is not my strong suit.

I play pathfinder weekly and even then it's about the mechanics and interactions not about the story I've created for myself.

I can definitely see myself rping in this game! The overall feels you get from the different planets, from the exploration and the discovery of new material and tools, makes for a awesome setting for rp! Perhaps start out as small groups with different agendas? One group is keen on rebuilding their old home that was destroyed years ago by a unknown threat? A captain commandeering a pirate ship, out to find unfortunate victims traveling the stars? Or a science group, sent out to find new minerals, establish a base dedicated to science, or maybe biologists on a mission to find alien life? The possibilities are endless! C:

I would most likely want to rp as a part of a scientific group, or perhaps as a member of a mining crew. So many options! But when the game gets released, I might just play the game as is, until finding a good group to rp with. But its totally a option for me!
