Will you go melee or ranged?

Oh. Well, this is a thread about Starbound, so I guess I made an assumption.

 

I like stealth, backstabbing, lying, and other mischievous things
I will aim for anything that has a high attack speed, whether it be gun or sword.

In all seriousness though... Yeah, let's go with both.

 

I would like to be primarily melee based just to see if they did it right. In terraria for example, melee weapons were very underwhelming, especially in the late game. And even in the 1.2 update, melee weapons were given ranged niches to attempt to put them on-par with ranged weapons.
I want to have just as many reasons to take a sword over a gun and vice versa.

There is only two ways to kill something: burn it or make it die of rad poisoning. Both are hard to do with melee, so i dare say ranged weapons are best. That and melee weapons are simply brutish

 

I'd probably go with a short-ranged ranged weapon. Like a shotgun.
And if I could dual wield a shotgun and a sniper rifle I would, but I'm fairly sure shooting a sniper rifle one handed is bad for you. Just a bit.
If not, but I could dual wield a shotgun w/ something, I'd dual wield a shotgun and something that can aim.... or maybe just another shotgun.

 

dual wielding 2 swords and swap one out for a gun if the dual wielding would look like swinging two terraria swords.
it would just hurt my eyes.

I would go ranged, 'cause ranged weapons are quite handy, but melee weapons are also handy if you're up close and personal with a foe.

Though question. When I first saw the game I was set on "I'll be a ranger" but since the Insomnia i49 festival I've been thinking. The guns seemed a lot weaker. A sword of (for example) tier 5 and a gun of tier 5 does not have equal damage, but I guess that also depends on what type of gun it is. SMG's and machine guns has a low base damage but high firing speed. A sniper rifle has high base damage but slow shooting speed. But most swords have average-high base damage with decent speed. So in general swords are better but has the weakness of being in close-range of your enemy. I think I won't decide until I've seen for myself how both type of weapons works.

 

Really swinging towards the ranged side. I am on the fence though so voted ranged for now - who knows may change.

my main, A human who is a samurai/blades men will only use his katana(s)
another one of my characters would be a sniper...or a equal opportunist kinda deal
