Will we be able to store Characters using cloud sync?

Characters are currently different on each system... I login on many different systems when I play, it would be nice to be able to sync my characters with the cloud / Steam so that I can continue my adventure with having to start over. This would be nice for both Single and Multiplayer.

I personally have no use for it, but I can see why it is a really good idea and why it should be implemented. +1.

Starbound saves are divided among several files. World files alone can exceed 6MB easily, and that adds up very quickly. Remember those 10 worlds you rand around 3 weeks ago? The game does, and its 10MB each.

It is not practical to use the steam cloud for Starbound because it has a limited storage space per game, per user.

Alternativly, you can set up a Dropbox folder to sync your starbound folders specifically and that will solve it, but if you don't have a good upload speed, it could take a while to fully sync each time.

As far as I am aware - they never mentioned cloud sync support for steam.
Steam also has pretty strict file size restrictions.

With that said it is pretty easy to setup 3rd party file sync like dropbox file sync.

In a way I like the idea that what my character do on planets (such as digging giant holes to the core) can easily be removed by deleting a few files without having to deal with disabling cloud sync. Even though I may never go on that planet again I dislike the idea there is a planet out there that I completely screw over, headcanon is that erosion happened if I need an excuse for it. I do like the idea of saving players but to some Starbound players the world is much more importation than what their character may have on them. Seem kinda unfair to such players if they save only the characters.

Being a sandbox game I think it is completely fair to expect no cloud sync. Beside with possible modding you are asking for trouble.

I play on three different computers, depending where I am and what not. I currently have my systems synchronizing with my owncloud installation and set up a Starbound server to connect to. This way my toon always travels with me and I connect to the universe in the cloud (my server). I think it would be nicer if you set up a personal server, the characters are stored server side rather then locally. That seems like it would require quite a bit of coding to change, but it would be nice.

yeah, my first thought was set up google drive to synch them. but that's because i've used it for work in the past and am pretty familiar with it. dropbox probably works too. or onedrive. or [insert other cloud storage system here].
