Does anyone know if this new update will wipe characters and/or world progress? Like, will it wipe it if I built a bomb ass house with my best friend, will it wipe that progress?

    Any response will be appreciated!

    If I recall correctly..
I've head that it won't affect character files, but it will affect universe files.
    ..
So if I'm right your characters will be fine, the world will not.

Are you being serious?? Do you remember where you read this? If that's true, I might just cry rn. :wut:||||||

Yes I am being serious, why would I not be?
As long as you collect everything you've built on planets you'll be able to at least save the resources.
    ..
That is unless I'm wrong of course, it could be better and it could be worse.

You can always copy your starbound folder to a different location so you can play both, the old version with your buildings and the new version with the updates. I don't mind wipes all that much, kinda nice little nudge to start over.

    ^ This.
That way it won't automatically update and you can still play everything.

Just start again when the new update drops. With all the changes over stable build, it'll be almost like a new game anyway.

I just made a really amazing house with my best friend and it means a lot to us both so that's why I'm asking. Thanks though guys!!!

I MIGHT do this to save my big home planet complex, but I was already planning to do some hefty revisions to it anyway, to the point where starting over isn't all that much of an increase in work put in. (And with an upgraded Matter Manipulator and a better idea of what I'm doing? Would prolly go faster this time.)

I know how you feel, last week, I covered an entire planet with obsidian, burying my base, and made my new home. Was about 12 hours of continuous work. Preferably, I would rather not lose it, but, yeah, I think its fairly likely. Who knows, someone might come out with a way to backup a particular planet, and "update" it to the new file format, and place, so you can put it in the universe folder and play with it. Would be noce, but I wouldn't count on it.

Since the update will be most likely from the Nightly tree, it would break your character files (ship upgrades, missions, reciped etc).
Universe would need a reset to get the new plants and biomes i guess.

But since we dont know what the update will bring...we cant be sure yet.
But prepare for a full delete

That's my hope. I mean, the entire rest of the universe can reboot for all I care. Yay, more planets to discover!

But man, I'm like halfway through recreating the Satellite of Love on my current homeworld.

"The primordial rose abides only in its name; we hold names stripped."

It's a quote by Bernhard of Cluny, expressing the thought of "vanitas". Nothing is made for eternity, even the most beautiful things. You may have heard of Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose", which is a reference to this quote.
