Yes, it will be on Steam, but they're releasing it on other store platforms as well. I believe they're thinking about releasing it through their website as well.

The price isn't announced, but Tiy said that he wanted it to be accessible to most people, so I'd say nothing above 30$

There also might be discounts for buying multiple copies at once.

I think that Steam is the most accessible gaming platform and also the most known. And to be honest, even if I would pay $30 for Starbound, it's too high. Most of nowadays gamers judge games by it's graphics, so Starbound isn't one of those super-realistic 3D shooters that everyone is looking for.

I have a lot of friends that are bragging for playing Crysis 2 or GTA4 on maximum video settings. They don't care about the gameplay itself.

So a graphics-sucker would check Starbound, and after seeing the price they'll just forget about it. When I first found Terraria, I was looking for an addictive, simple 2D game that would run smoothly on my laptop. I saw it was $11 and jsut bought it, without checking videos or other things.

Ah I see  Thought I had missed some important info! Also I'm fairly certain it will be on Steam. Seems logical at least.

I believe Tiy confirmed they're releasing it on Steam, but they're looking at a multi-front release, to reach as many people as possible.

Again, sense-able the team wants everyone to see it, why not put it where everyone can get it.

I don't think that they should lower the price just 'cause the graphics ain't "super-realistic 3D" as you say.
We have tons of games like that coming out year after year. It's good to have "different" graphics in some games (like Starbound and Terraria, for example).
And of course, we don't know everything that Starbound will have yet, so there's not much we can discuss about the price, in my opinion.

That's not quite the point he was trying to make.

What he meant was that the price shouldn't be based on graphics alone; instead, it should be based on things like how extensive and enjoyable it is.

Yeah, that was what I tried to say, but maybe I expressed myself wrong :p

The point is that, even if it is going to be awesome and have a lot of content and possibilities, people won't just pay that much for a 2D game. Of course, we, as members of this community and addicted to Terraria-like games, we would pay $30 for Starbound. But what about people who actually have no idea about Terraria and it's graphics artist Tiy?

I guarantee that $30 would be some much for this game. Don't get me wrong, I would pay even $100 for it but that's because I've read all those things on the forums and the website.

An average gamer and customer on Steam would find out about this game by seeing it advertised on Steam. Few of them will go deeper. And here on the forum, there have been mentioned a lot of awesome features, but it would require a 30 minute trailer to make people understand how the game experience really is.

A thing is clear: Starbound will be more expensive than Terraria for sure.

Do you think there will be a special edition version of Strabound?
Becuase when the special version of terraria came out I didn't want to buy it again and lose the data.

I really hope that when they put it on Steam, they add Steam Cloud support so you still have your character if you're on another computer.

Steam is the most sensible place for it, but having it on other's such as Desura may be a good idea as well.
