I was thinking for a bit, and then I realized my two favorite games are Starbound and League of Legends... So, if I'm going to be heartbroken playing one instead of the either, WHY NOT COMBINE THEM? All you need is a minion spawner, a turret (targets enemies, people choose their team color like Terraria), and a nexus, and viola, you have a MOBA. Of course, this will never be League of Legends level of awesomeness, but if the developers make turrets (I assume there will be base protection items, after all this game is super in depth), then the modder community will be able to create a MOBA game mode. Depending on how easy to use the API will be, we will be able to make items, shops, drops, monsters (boss monsters even), and even create servers based entirely on a MOBA game. This is a bad idea, but this is Starbound. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.
This is but one of many, many things a dedicated modding community could (and probably will, at least in some form) produce.
I look forward to such a thing. Does a MOBA Minecraft mod exist? I kind of doubt it since Mojang has provided 0% of their promised modding support API. And they promised to make the API years ago.
You have never experienced life. I hate DOTA 2 btw, but I love LoL. I also liked Smite, it's a pretty good MOBA. But anyways, to each his own. After all, there are many hipsters who always hate the most popular things.
Meh, you might aswell just go play awesomenauts. What good would it do to try playing a moba on starbound when there's already infrastructures installed everywhere and you have no guarantee whatsoever to even find people to play with. Especially since most already established mobas have game-finding programs and starbound just cant apart forum-rummaging. Not saying im against, just saying the whole idea of playing moba on starbound instead of one of the many, MANY already established ones seems kinda silly and pointless

So someone who isnt your opinion (because obviously your opinion is the most popular), is a hipster who always hates whats popular? Got a good lough there.
It's a nice idea for a mod, not sure what else you're suggesting. Kinda surprised you didn't mention awesomenauts but whatever. It does bring the question of whether or not the game will support modded game modes though. Warcraft 3 style would be awesome, that game has the best system I've ever used for joing modded games.
Ugh, MOBAs can be fun, but usually just lead to people raging and constantly being upset. Their communities are worse than the Xbox360 360 CoD community, I'd rather play with a bunch of whiney 13 year olds that can't stop talking about butts than deal with the upset adults in a MOBA. Anyhow, I don't hate the genre, it can be fun, but I can't imagine it working out too well in the Starbound universe. If you want a 2D MOBA there's always Awesomenauts, which I had a ton of fun with. With that said I can imagine a type of tower defense game being spawned from Starbound with MOBA-esque features, but likely the creeps will be the focus rather than the players.
Awesomenauts is a crappy game. That's why I will never mention it. Now Starbound on the other hand, could potentially be fun for a quick "MOBA duel" with your friend. But Awesomenauts... God, that game just sucked. Oh well, got it for free from a Humble Bundle. Edit: OMG WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP MENTIONING AWESOMENAUTS. STOP PLEASE. YOUR HURTING MY HEAD.
if someone modded it, go right ahead. But if you are asking the developers to do this, then NO to the Thank you. LoL, Dota, and what ever games there are about the genre are quite boring and don't appeal to me; and no I am not a hipster.
Errrrr... maybe because you are the one wanting a MOBA styled gameplay in an 2D-Environment Game (Starbound!) and Awesomenauts is a good example for it. So what exactly do you expect it to be? oO
this ^ Shiokuri, you yourself are asking for something in which awesomenauts is THE reference, what were you expecting ? Pass along that you dont like it but for most people, its a success, and its basicly what you are asking for ! in a game that dosent have the groundwork to expressively support such a game moreover. So its a very weird request. It might be a bit soon too to ask for it if you meant as a mod like many people thought. And if you meant in-game from the get-go, you'll get a big no from pretty much anyone. And i agree with this too ^ I have never seen a game genre devolve its fan-base into ravening monsters as quickly as MOBAs, its as-if turning into an ***hole is part of the game

I love DotA 2 and Awesomenauts, I hate LoL, and there is a MOBA map for Minecraft. As someone else said, as long as it's a mod and not a part of the vanilla game, I'm okay. And yes, MOBA community is the worst I've ever seen.
The problem with making MOBA mode is that it might bring some DOTA community over... and let's say dealing with typical MOBA community is only slightly worse than drinking sulfuric acid after having a meal from rotten corpse and fecal matter
