And if so, will it contain both the Temp. and hunger meter by force, or will it be a check-box type of thing? I was just wondering, because I would like to start a hardcore character for the first time in a game. I never liked the thought of losing a character from a death, but in this game I think it feels more natural to fear death, rather than embrace it and respawn.
To me I feel the same way. Hunger and Temperature management makes the game more in-depth for me. In ALL I mean ALL games that allow me to change my difficulty, I would always go the hardest or a step below it, and basically just deal with it. I want a challenge. (Although having your backpack filled with food and like 6 bottles of water just to survive a single day trip, no. Hunger/thirst should drain in a considerable rate. HOWEVER, Uhm yes, I think more options and absolute control make any game better. So I like this idea too for the other players who doesn't want a "hassle"
I am really hoping that survival difficulty and combat difficulty are separate. x.x I hate having to go on hardcore just to get the hardcore survival aspects, and usually perma-death.
i'm sure there will be a character mode that deletes the character. but for hardmode? er...level cap planets will always be difficult, no matter what armor or items you have.
I can see this being a fun feature. Something to challenge yourself past end game and just space legos.
If there were such a mechanic, it would probably be optional. Players should be allowed to choose whether or not they want to use these things. In any case, I know that there is already optional hunger and temperature, but beyond that I'm not sure.
I save hardcore-type modes for offline characters only, after being screwed out of too many Diablo II closed realm characters by internet hiccups.
If starbound has more flexibility in terms of character maneuverability, I'll totally try out the hardest difficulty the instance beta come out.
If there's a permadeath hardcore mode I'll probably try to reach the "level cap" (aka. "item-cap", really) in vanilla mode first, figuring out all the important stuff along the way. Hardcore mode really would be a neat addition but I figure it's advisable to learn the ropes with a respawnable character before you go badass.
I say, "BE A MAN!" and do it right from the start! Nah just kidding, that's probably a better idea, but I'm going to play on the hardest possible mode. If I don't play on the hardest, I think it wouldn't feel right.
I remember thinking that to myself when I replayed Bioshock 1 in preparation for Bioshock infinite and then I got my ass handed to me.
I usually make one of each character, then level/progress them in parallel. I can learn bosses on softcore, and once I feel like I can do it with few screw ups I head to hardcore and go at it. Doesn't always work though
