It should work perfectly fine on Windows 8. There is *some* differences between 7 and 8, though. With all those background performance enhances, somewhere in there they made it so that some games can't access memory it needs instantaneously from my nVidia chip. I've experienced issues with two games most notably from Steam- Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Evochron Mercenary.

I've since moved back down to Windows 7.

*Don't get me wrong though, that 4-second boot time was amazing!

Tiy has stated a few times that he has Windows 8. So that would me to think that is being tested on that system by the lead Dev himself.

I have never heard of this before.. You may have been having driver issues (Especially if it's a laptop). I know Nvidia worked on Windows 8 compatibility since the first Developer beta, but that of course doesn't mean they always get those darn drivers right. lol

Ohhh. I think we got ourselves a Linux user. Nice to meet you! Keep in mind that Tiy still loves you even if you hate his taste in OS's. :D

Nope, it's my custom built gaming rig with a nVidia GTX 680. I thought it was a driver issue too, but I ended up having to wait for Microsoft to fix it.

Don't get me wrong, nVidia works perfectly on 99.9% of games in Windows 8. Just those certain ones that crash to desktop sometimes.

I was just throwing my personal experience with Windows 8 out there.

Oh ok. I can see how that happens. They got a little too eager with the memory protection. lol Nothing wrong with sticking to 7 though, at least until the iron out the nasty wrinkles in 8's code. :p

What would be really cool is if they also made a Raspberry Pi version. That would be awesome on many levels!

Just got myself some new hardware for my PC and windows 8 is still working like a dream. No issues so far. But then everyone's experiences vary :p

Its pretty difficult to find a program that doesn't work on windows 8 but works on windows 7.

I've heard that Vista has some issues, but I have never had any problems with it that compatibility wizard didn't solve easily and quickly, and those were few. I can't even think of 2 right now.
I have Vista 64-bit Home Edition.

Windows 8 should run Starbound just fine. It probably won't include Metro features or whatever Windows 8 does though.

As would be expected. Nothing metro offers is relevant for a game.

For western programs, sure. Funny thing is that about half of my Japanese Visual Novels simply refuse to work under any settings on windows 8. The Japanese have a reputation for being technologically advanced, but god damn they cannot program. Most Japanese software sucks.

Maturity central. Read the opinion of some clown on your favourite blog saying "OMG windows 8 suxxorz" and now you believe it? Windows 8 is upgraded Windows 7 and metro is easy to disable if it offends you. Grow up.

Windows 8 isnt all that bad, I only use it because it would cost money to reformat my brand new laptop with windows 7...
It eventually becomes familiar, but everyone shares their opinion.
I've had it since the 25th, it's pretty fun, and can be fast.

If it's compatible with Win7 it will be compatible with Win8 ..

Old thread, but I'll answer that.

It has nothing to do with Windows 8. I'm running it and have had no problems. Have you tried verifying integrity of the game chace via Steam or reinstalling?

Doesn't sound like an error that would occur from using Windows 8. I can run it on 8 without that error, so there must be something that could be causing it.

Also, check the timestamps next time. This thread has been dead since January, and your question doesn't really have much to do with the topic at hand.
