Will starbound be a game defined by god awful grinding?

I have replayed to you many times. But I guess name-calling (some of which don't even make sense. raging fanboy, troll, carebear, do you have more?) and personal attacks are everything you have left.

Nah, haven't seen it. Guess it exists only in your head as Devs stating this is a mining simulator.

Okay, bro. Show me, what you have.

Here comes the guy, who would like to hear your argument on what I have just said. Guess, there aren't many of those in your repertoire. There isn't stated nowhere that mining is a backbone of this game.

Follow the story or create your own, experience the game how YOU want to.
Well, I wanna explore the universe on my own terms. How about giving us other options to do so than just mindless mining, as promised?

From what I have heard and read about the game, I expected survival sci-fi space travel sandbox, as Devs stated. Ever saw Firefly, Farscape, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica? Were half of the episodes about mining?

I chose this game specifically, because I got tired of Terraria concept. And what do I get..

Really, instead of gating us by 'mine this colored rock which builds weapons that are exactly like last colored rock with slightly higher damage numbers' they should be gating us by hostile planets with toxic fumes that we need equipment to survive.

I'm cool with needing to mine for the materials to make the equipment, but right now that's all I have to do at all. Over and Over. And it takes forever. And there's nothing interesting underground.

With the very vocal minority like Joe Chip seemingly having some influence on development I think it will. Sadly they might be ruining the game for everyone by turning into Terraria 2 (which, ironically, is also in development for folks like them.)

lol. You want to explore the game in your own terms... You just answered yourself. You want the game to suit you.
This game is currently centered around mining as a core mechanic. It doesn't matter how hard you squirm. It isn't going away.
And again (since I replayed to you in my previous post too but you just decided to ignore it): you are deeply misinformed. You should have done more research before buying it and complaining how it's not what you thought it was.
You chosed this game because you wanted something with a different concept than Terraria? Wrong choice. Starbound is very similar to Terraria in a lot of ways. In fact it was referred to as Terarria's spiritual sequel. And you thought it was going to have a different concept? I don't even know if you are serious.
The sheer ignorance and arrogance of some people are just mind-boggling.

Joe Chip, your pathetic, condescending attitude is not helping things.

"The sheer ignorance and arrogance of some people are just mind-boggling." = pot calling kettle

You can call me arrogant, but you can't seriously call me ignorant on this matter. As for personal insults and name-calling, please carry on. I am not new to forums.

I love the way you play the victim, yet using the same methods. :)

Alright guys, stop feeding the troll. We need to discuss and talk about constructive solutions, not placate this one guy's desire for PLANET LOCUSTS 2013.

Actually, you are being deliberately ignorant, thinking you can dictate exactly what Starbound is when Ty's sales pitch paints the game as being pretty different from Terraria.

But I'm used to dealing with trolls like you. I'm not new to forums either. Go ahead, keep playing up that victim complex in an attempt to convince yourself you're superior to everyone else. It just gets sad after a point. You will be ignored from now on since you haven't got anything of value to contribute.

Yet again, this really doesn't sound like Terraria. As developers, we’ve been inspired by all the games we grew up playing. From isometric 80s classics to Castlevania, Zelda, Metroid. Celebrated platformers like Mario and Sonic, RPGs such as Elder Scrolls and Ultima, and iconic handheld games such as Pokemon. Where is the Terraria reference?
Guess I have been disinformed by Devs themselves. Not a word about spending most of the time underground. It should have been called Cavebound then. Guess even the name of the game is misleading.

Everyone with a different opinion is a troll. Great way to lead a debate, bro.

I am not dictating anything. I am observing what Starbound is. In fact I think I have done a better job at understanding this game in its current state than you have.

I have little interest on who you want to blame. The point still remains. This game starts from the same concept of Terraria. I don't see how anyone could deny that.

More that we haven't had any productive discussion in like two pages.

It maybe does. But it isn't stated anywhere. So, please, stop telling me I should have expected a Terraria clone, when I was buying the game.

How about instead of hunting imaginary trolls, you come up with something constructive?

    Pyronymer,

Think of this. In your "mind's eye" if you will. People sit in their comfy chairs in front of a computer screen. They read about a game from one of the core people that created a game they love, and a FREAKING SMOKING HOT chick named Molly. Now, picture this. RAINBOWS! EXPLOSIONS! UNICORNS THAT CRAP BUBBLE GUM! SPACE EXPLORATION IN A UNIVERSE THAT BOASTS OVER 2.2 BILLION DIFFERENT PLANETS. (I'll touch on that later) Guns, swords, shields, armor, pets, towns you create yourself, merchants, bandits, pirates, zombies, frog monks that sell you stuff hundreds of feet underground in a temple that you may have never found. (all he sells is bombs and pickaxes, by the way. ON A TIER 4 Planet, F***ing garbage IMO) procedurally generated planets, monsters, enemies, weapons, guns, and such. Not to mention, a whole lot of other stuff I could quip about.

NOW, spread this out over over 200 million planets, in each sector. Bound to get a little repetitive. Now that is beside the point.

Lets add a little something extra into the mix. THE INTERNET! Youtube, Facebook, Yahoo, Google, Forums, PC Mag, GAMEINFORMER, Twitch Tv, you know. Where slobbering gamers go to catch some small glimpse of something that may or may not be true. Stir in some HYPE, HYPE, HYPE, HYPE, HYPE.

Lets add the most toxic element to the mixture. AN OPEN BETA. Not only an open beta, but one that has most of the features removed.

Okay, with that being said. Those people who sat with their eyes glued to the screen now get a chance to play the game. "WAIT! where are the flying unicorns? Pirates? Zombies? and so on."

Now they feel betrayed. Hate wells.

Hate rises volcanic from the gut, and erupts like fire from the mouth.

Then a person like you comes along. Eloquent, poised, and well spoken. You shed light on their fears. You bring arise their concerns. You poke at their nightmares. They rage because you may be right.

It's dangerous to go alone. Here, take this. :viking:

Keep writing. Keep voicing your opinion of how the grind sucks. Because it does. Anyone who says that "Do this stuff to get to the next tier, now that you are at the next tier, DO IT AGAIN" is a fun game, is full of crap.

"I just like building a house out of fun stuff" Well kid, go get some LEGOs.

The game is not done. It is not complete. It has features missing.

I will not sit and listen to the absolute garbage that "I'm fine with how it is NOW". Because it is not fine.

Ah, there's the rub. "In its current state" indeed.

Currently, the game is a bit too much like terraria, but that doesn't mean that's what the final product will (or should) be.
