Will Sound Travel?

Since music and vocals are being implemented as part of Starbound, I was wondering if anyone knew if sound would be able to echo across a landscape? I think it would be cool if you landed on a planet that you knew some performers were on, but instead of warping right into the concert, you came in from a slight distance away, and the sound of their music would increase as you got closer.

Of course, travelling sound could be applied for a number of non-musical situations, like gunfire and roaring monsters (perhaps to warn you to not go this way cuz you'll die a horrible, horrible death if you do).

    Thoughts? :proper:

No idea if they're doing that, but I like the idea.

Hehehe, just imagine that ohshit moment when you hear an approaching roar and suddenly your security system's klaxons start going off.

Reminds me of something Helloween4545 showed off in the game Nier. There was this woman named Devola playing a "guitar" next to a fountain and when you walked away only the song would be heard and when you talked to her the same effect would occur, leaving you with the feeling like she is actually playing and singing the song. The above shows off the feature if my description is inadequate. The actual feature is shown at 00:40 and on.

I don't get it but it sound good. Could compliment the stealth system suggestion quite well.

Better yet, if sound would travel further and have a heavier echo effect within more tightly enclosed spaces, and the material of the walls have an effect on the sound from all distances.

I find this very interesting you should put this in suggestions I would love this in the game would add alot to the atmosphere.

  7. It's one of the things that you don't even think about and when someone like you SilentMage mentions it you realise it would be great to see that in-game.
Good idea, should be posted in the suggestions sub-forum.

Pretty sure right now it's just a matter of the closer you are to something the louder it is. I wouldn't be surprised if sounds changed when in closed areas such as caves to give more detail to the game. If we really want to get crazy, which I do, is to fully implement a doppler effect simulation into the game.

Thanks for all the feedback! I replicated this post in Suggestions for more exposure. Hopefully something like this does get implimented - I think it would greatly add even more atmosphere and immersion into this universe.

    How 'bout...
You're swimming in the ocean, and suddenly you hear a steadily increasing in volume sound: Dun-na, Dun-na, Dun-na
    and BAM! Jaws attacks.

Sounds great. It would be nice if the matieral density and atmospheric density affected sound travel as well. Remember people, in space nobody can hear you scream sing.
