Because people don't give credit, that's the issue, if someone wants to fiddle with someone else's work but never publish it, go for it, do it all day long, but it's the people that change one or two things then claim they did all the work that ruin it for everybody.

Literally nobody who is against modders' rights supports not crediting the original person.

Welcome to the starbound community, these guys are worried the new policy will contaminate the community, GUESS WHAT, it's already contaminated with toxicity.

I really don't understand the point you're going to make. This isn't a hypothetical. There has been an actual mod (well server wrapper), actually removed because of the previous history of a modder. What other information can they possibly get in respect to that?

And can easily be avoided by one simple message to the mod creator.

..Er.. Yes? Since when wasn't respecting people and being treated politely important? If I'm not, I'm not going to want to continue modding for Starbound because it's disheartening. Why should I release mods for public use if people aren't even polite enough to ask me to use it in their own mods? Jesus, you seem to be making the point that as a modder I have no rights to being treated with any respect at all.

All of this drama related to modding games is simply because most modders are just a bunch of kids who've never worked in a real work environment.
Guess what happens when you do work for a real job? Did you really think the boss is going to come over, give you a pat on the back, and give you credit for doing your job?
No. So why do you expect a bunch of teenagers on a forum to give you credit for making MODIFICATIONS (not even real work in itself) to someone else's work?

This idea of closed-sourced work is toxic to society as a whole. People should be doing work because they like doing it, regardless of whether or not they got credit.
Why do you think almost all software development has become open-sourced? Collaborative effort is far more important for progress than what any one person can do.
Provided, most developers have the courtesy to at least give a nod to someone's work, but thats something you can only expect from working adults...
not a bunch of internet teenagers.

You can either deal with it or leave. No one will miss you, there'll always be someone else to replace you. If you cant get past the idea of that, you shouldnt be modding.
And at the end of the day, truly good work will always be credited to their original creator, theres no need to force it.

No no, the actual reason for this thread starting, not the downhill drama that came afterward.

Some modders want to be their own gate instead of being satisfied with being given credit for their mod. It's really dumb.

It's not being forced, it's optional, if people can't handle that, then they can leave. This thread needs to be locked.. like now.

This topic isn't really going anywhere productive so I'm locking it. If someone wants it opened and can PM me with a compelling enough reason I'll open it up.
