As much as I don't want to link to a technic forum thread I believe it is appropriate here in showing the kind of character that you are putting on a pedestal here: http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/lexmanos-vs-flower-child-forge-is-now-run-by-nazis.32725/
those are not the words of a rational reasonable man, those are the words of a childish butthurt man who refuses to listen to what others are trying to say, not even considering the possibility that the other party is telling the truth.

Modifications are derivative works, while Chucklefish owns the copyrights of those derivative works, US law in regards to derivative works and fair use law still dictates that I am able to make further derivative works or make use of the original derivative works.

Go for it, I'm not stopping you.
That's great, but Chucklefish doesn't have to host, support, or even link your mod and would be fully in their right to deny you access to their modding section.

    Not true.

Take for example my "avali" mod. That is basically from-scratch content. It's formatted in such a way that it's usable in such a way that Starbound can read the bitmaps, and thus use them in the game. But they are first and foremost my intellectual property and creation and protected by both EU and US law. Now, if you're talking about mods that are modified from the chucklefish content, then yes, chucklefish still owns the right and can pull that any time they want in the same way they can tell me to cease and desist using my content in their game. (But it's in neither of our mutual interest to do so).

But if someone came along and took or used my content in a way I didn't like, without my permission, then it's entirely in my rights (legally) to put my foot down and say "no"

And that is my point, Chucklefish is going to (further) splinter their own modding community over this. So instead of having a centralized database where everyone is on the same page and giving modders tools like being able to see what packs use their mod so they can figure out what people are using to "compliment" or "complete" their mod which gives modders a whole slew of information about possible positive improvements or changes they can make to their mods, the modding community is going to pull itself apart.

Yes, you are right about your intellectual property, but Chucklefish is allowed to remove your mod if they felt like it as that is in their legal right, though I doubt that would ever happen.
Or instead of just doing something random like that, someone could just get in touch with the creator, show them what they have done and then move from there. Also, the massive amount of exaggeration in this thread is getting rather funny, as the modding community will rip itself apart anyway, rules or not.

I'm in favor of booting all the "MODDERS RIGHTS" people over to Nexus, so they can be among their people. You're not doing anything to build a good, cooperative community and we really don't need you here; The sole reason for this absurd argument is due to feelings of entitlement and a petty desire for control.

WOO, you modified some script and made a .png, who cares. You have done nothing important, and most often in situations like these the most vocal people "create" the least worthwhile mods.

    Please get out.

But this isn't Minecraft, and I'm telling you the devs and staff are already dealing with these kinds of people.

Short story? Because it's god damn polite to ask permission to use something you didn't create, regardless of what it is at all. Why should mods be any different?

It's not Minecraft, no. But like I said, this isn't about hypotheticals. This has cropped up before in many communities. I'm glad to let the devs handle it but I just want them to have all
    the info they can.

Why are you evading what I said? Your premise of "I want to add features" doesn't jive with your defense of modders' rights.

Is it polite? Yeah. But why does it matter that much if results are gotten?

To use a previous example made, because people also make multiple versions of the same thing, and then you have users complaining to you about bugs from a different modder that took your unfinished mod and ran with it.

Perhaps I'm just old fashioned when it comes to being polite, but I don't see manners as optional, when it comes to absolutely anything someone else owns.
    In short, this.

If I was given original credit, who cares? My hard work has already been respected. Why do I need to give people permission to play with my mod or modify it for their needs? Why should that be a thing I require?

Rune the Red Panda Existential Complex

This thread has gone downhill... it used to be a very "this and this" with constructive arguments, and now everyone's just being a jerk and saying the snarkiest thing that comes to mind (heck, even the dev didn't stop you.), I think the post above me is a VERY good example.

Okay, and? That sucks but I don't see that as the worst thing in the world.

That's funny. So what you're telling me is "I need to be respected and treated politely!" is more important than adding new features?
