And witless, i dont know what mod you have made for starbound, or am making atm but you seem to have so much anger so im thinking if that angers comes from that you cant have your mod here anymore after the permissions options were added and you used other people stuff?

Also you can worry about the way the mod community is going but i think you are seeing the worst that could happend. Stay calm and we can still have a good place for talking about mods and making them

I believe he is angry because the only thing he has released were modpacks and "tweaks" that I assume he never got permission for since they're now deleted.

Here's another example, if I started work on an art project, say a painting but I didn't finish it, would you be in your right to go and finish it for me? No.
Another, if I built a house, would you be able to go and build an extension onto it, and then claim the house as yours? No.
Or another, if I started a paper about the differences between two different methods of managing mod communities, and then flatly said that I wasn't going to finish it, would you be allowed to take that work, finish it to your standards and then release it under your name? No.

This is pretty basic ownership.

So your saying you want to be able to tweak other peoples mods to your liking or add pieces of their mods to your mods, but if they say no you can't so you'll throw a fit...?

That's a pretty good point for forcing all the coded portions of mods to be open use. I think that graphic and sound assets should have rights revert to the creator, however. But I might be biased, because I have a lot more experience with graphics than coding. Still, it seems that the code for a mod is by it's nature derivative, but the assets don't have to be.

You could help the discussion by explaining a little bit more instead of jumping to being all snide and aggressive to others.

Yes, I'm sure you only having mod packs has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that you made an angry rant post about it, but considering the mod releases have been deleted, I'm afraid I can't validate any of the work was yours. So the logical assumption is that yes, the packs were of someone else's work since why else would you be upset about it?

The irony is that you complain about it ruining the mod community, and Kestenvarn posts links about it causing stagnation and remaking, yet your pack contained something that has already been done many times, which is charcoal conversion. So you'll have to excuse me if I have a hard time believing that it'll make the modding community for Starbound a horrible place.

I also second this. Flame baiting is against the rules, the last post you (witless) made was quite blatantly so. So maybe if you were less hostile and added to the discussion, you might win some support.

As a coder and a spriter, I can tell you that coding can be just as hard and challenging, and it's just as agitating when someone steals it.

I did a little rereading over Witless' first post, it sounds as if Witless doesn't want to be bothered with people constantly asking permission in order to use their mod. They're basically saying 'I don't want to be troubled by others constantly asking me, because I could be doing other things instead of wasting time giving others permission'

 

You know, I (and a lot of others) would be able to respect what you're saying more if you aren't being a snarky-snark and generally rude.

 

Then he should reread the post Molly made which clearly states an option to allow redistribution of your own mods without people having to ask you.

 

Everyone one in the topic is rude, snarky and a bunch of doofs, including me.
