Because of this video, I think the monsters will be different everytime... then again, he did time travel so it's still not certain. Hopefully by the release date there will be some conistency to a specific planet's monster population but we'll see :)

It doesn't "change". It's random, each biome has many species designed for it. You may find 30 different creatures at the same time. If you kill them off who knows what will spawn. If you leave a planet they may despawn and you might get a different set of creatures, but they won't vary too much.
^That is speculation, but from stated information that is how it should work. I doubt they want you to fight 20 multicolored slimes over and over.

No, that's not how it works. The system is designed so that everyone can visit the same planets without trading seeds. You don't get some random batch, you get all of them.

Planets will always generate the same monsters no matter how many times you leave and come back. The Universe has a set seed with each planet's coordinates acting as the planet seed. This seed controls what generates on that planet. Since the universe is the same for everyone, the coordinates generate the same ecosystem/monsters for everyone. This doesn't include chests and such, they were working on making them random so people can't find an easy chest and loot it over and over again.

The idea is that you find a cool monster, you can tell your friends the coordinates and they can go look at the same monster.

I know that, but you're not going to manually search through thousands of planets. You type in the coords, exactly like you type in a seed. The coords are the seed.

Lots of good information in that thread of course.

It would seem like a bug to me if the monsters change each time you visit. I'm only guessing, but I think it's a very safe bet that a planet will normally always have the same monsters. I wouldn't worry about it.
