I thought it would be a good idea to let everycranged weapon have an attribute called zooming or whatever. This should allow u to zoom more out or wider to one side. Just an idea i had. Hope someone will read this. Greetings from Germany and good luck if a developer is reading this.
I think that would make ranged weapons pretty overpowered. Do you have an idea for melee weapons to balance the whole thing? PS: You´ve better posted that thread in the "Mechanic" section, because it isn´t about an Item you´re talking about, but rather a mechanical function.
Ranged weapons are still limited, even if a sniper rifle allows for an extented field of view, you still can't shoot through obstacles (Unless the weapon has some kind of explosive projectile) - so if you're melee, you could easily build a wall, or dig underneath your foe. You need to use tatics and have a defensive location, if you're planning on camping. Also, moved to Mechanics, as this related more to game mechanics than being directly tied to certain gear/items.
Just imagine you´re on a planet, and you´re thinking you´re alone, and suddenly you get attacked from nowhere. It would be kinda annoying in my oppinion. And I think there wouldn´t be much time left, to build an obstacle or dig underneath your foe, because a guy with a decent ranged weapon will kill you easily with few shots. The second thing is, where is the advantage for the players who are going to play with melee weapons? It seems like there is none...
We don't yet know how exactly combat mechanics work, if you're able to simply "kill you easily with few shots." - Though I'm fairly certain that melee weapons deal more damage per attack, than your average ranged weapon, to counter the need to get in close, to be able to deal damage.
We don´t know exactly, but we´ve already seen some PvP Footage. Of course are ranged weapons weaker than the melee ones, like it was in nearly every RPG/MMO out there. (Thanks god ). I just don´t think, if you´re digging etc., that you have you´re melee and ranged weapon in the "Action Slots". So you´ll have to put away your digging tools first, and then you´re ready for combat. I just think it would be OP to have this in game, but maybe it´s just me...
I have an idea for a sniper to balance it out. You get to look off screes sure but its not a increased FOV. You see the game through the scope, you cannot move and you cannot see anything outside of this scope, you can move the scope farther from where your character in located but the screen is blacked out with the exception of a 2 inch-ish, circle with an X in the middle. This allows you to pan off screen but leaves you vulnerable. Also, a laser sight would exist as well, making your location easy to find AND to make it so you can't see past an object, if the laser is blocked by something then you cant pan past that. If the laser seems like a bit of over kill then scrap it, but it should exist at least invisibly and stop you from looking through walls and stuff.
More balance would be to give melee the ability to 'deflect' non-explosive projects if timed perfectly. And some weapons having the ability to 'reflect'... Actually how about we make it a rare ability for even ranged weapons to deflect projectiles if bullets were to come in contact.
It would make sense to have a scope limit the amount of area that is actually visible to the sniper as per what thefirecrack3r has shown. This and the fact guns deal minimal amount of damage would make them not overpowered.
