Oh my god I totally understand that. I crafted like 40 torches just because of that. As soon as my screen turns white I build an altar of torches around me.

I think I need some armor or something.

 

I have to agree with this. Pixels *seem* like they were implemented as a way to keep players mining earlier materials like copper. By requiring pixels you use the refinery on un-needed ores. A better solution would be to require these materials in all sorts of things. For example the wooden (or any door for that matter) could require copper for the hinges and handle. Weapons could require iron for the handles. Guns could require an assortment of metals for different things, and bullets could be made out of different types. I havent checked the wiki fully as I dont want to spoil too much for myself so these are just thoughts. But pixels are pretty meh to me personally. I would rather trade with NPCs using bars as a currency instead of pixels.

Also, why do camp fires burn forever? Shouldnt they require a wood upkeep? =D

Where are the re-plantable trees?

Wouldnt some sort of generator make sense for lights and other technology? We have the wiring, but why do these things run on no power?

Of course this is just beta =D and I love the game regardless.

 

Well the fluff for pixel is that it is money/a construction material, think about it as sort of plastic.

ugh tell me bout it lost 2 items prior to these last few patches... whos bright idea was to stick drop item right next to all the keys that get pressed all the time...
think minecraft did the same thing and the first thing I do is keybind that sucker all the way on P as far away from pressing it by accident as I can...

 

Planets do seem much harder. My first character I made had no problem clearing the starter planet and I made a really nice house for myself. With me new character now, I get my ass handed to me constantly. I'll come up to a single mob and think "It's only one, this will be easy.", NOPE. Turns out it's two mobs standing in the EXACT same place so only one sprite appears. Then half-way through killing them I get the duo of super birds aggro out of nowhere who can not only vomit blood but breathe fire. Let's just say it doesn't end well and my frustration slowly grows.

Yes it is a beta, and everyone is giving their opinions on it. I don't see why everyone just pulls the "It's a Beta your job is to report bugs/gameplay" card, but when somebody does give a suggestion or mentions something that could use a tweak they get steamrolled with insults and sarcasm.

 

I believe pixels are supposed to be some form of base mass. Real world 3D printers use plastic to form objects. It's not unreasonable, given the technology level required for interplanetary travel- that the 3D printer on the ship uses something more base and can reconstitute it into another form.

Which would also explain why it can't reproduce biological objects. It's printing rough duplicates of the objects using a base material. Pixels function as currency because they're what you use for production. They fill in the missing "parts" necessary for something to work. In the real world you can't print a device with moving parts, you have to print each part and assemble it. These devices can print using provided materials, IE if its made out of wood it uses wood you have, but also has to consume pixels to replace moving/functional parts that you don't have on hand.

Kind of Star Trek'ish. Replicators didn't just fabricate things out of the air. Matter can't be destroyed or created (at least, that's what we believe, and why we're looking for the HBP) it can only change from one form to another. Pixels are what we use as the base material to replicate other objects.

In a society where anything you need can be manufactured on the spot, currency becomes the materials necessary for matter replication.

I'm reminding OP that this is a beta because it looks as if he or she expects to be playing a finished and balanced game.
