your 6/10 gets a 0/0, and my 0/0 gets a 3/0... where does this stupid rating even come from D:
that's worse than that's what she said.

To bring it back on topic:

I think each game does different things better.

Terraria seems to have a good system for delivering a specific amount of content for an update and I think knows exactly what it's trying to do, whereas Starbound has suffered a lot of trouble in both a solid update method/schedule and knowing what it's trying to do. So much seems in flux, likely because it's being developed alongside starting a publishing and games company.

My edge goes to Starbound in the quality of the visuals. Backgrounds, items, and animations, along with overall style are much more fleshed out and personally appealing than Terraria. Having multiple worlds and a much more mod friendly structure are also strong points for Starbound.

Terraria is better in every aspect, in development terms, Terraria was made in just a few months while Starbound has been in development for years. In fact, the only reason Starbound did so well with pre-orders was because of Liy's catchphrase "Its Terraria in space but better :^)" to which it isn't and its definately not "better"

Starbound has shit loot, shit monsters(figurative and literally), shit biomes, and shit developers.

This is why we can't have nice things. There are completely appropriate and non inflammatory ways to express your discontent and this is not it.

and boom goes the bomb xD redonkules...

one thing about starbound which i find a bit meh is the variety, such a big huge vast universe with crazy amounts of planets, and there's only so little and so repeating biome combination and monsters, not to speak of loot, this really has to be pushed a bit.

    there neeeeeeds to be more!

  14. Just a broad statement from an observation, ya'll are doing pretty good as far as discussion goes.

I've done a little thinking about this thread myself lately.
Terraria now feels nothing like Terraria 1.0, it's a lot more atmospheric and full of polish now, but it doesn't really have the thing to keep me playing again and again.
Starbound isn't done, but the charm that the game has, an extension of it's art design, has more potential to keep me engaged later down the road. That and the modding for Starbound is great, the modding community is amazing here. I still don't think it's fair to compare a game that's been out for 3+ years to a game that's still in it's beta, but the comparison will be made regardless.

I'm more looking forward to the differences between Terraria and Starbound in another 1 and a half, but by then we'll probably have a few other iterations on the sandbox exploration game to draw comparisons from.

Loaded title? Click Bait? I go with my usual answer

Honestly they are two different games and have there pros and cons. The big thing to me that I like most about starbound are the characters don't look like they are toddlers and you can walk over small steps instead of having to jump.

    Nice joke,
Terraria is a real finished game with big udpates.
Starbound is a "not finished" game that worth just like a distraction from other games.

I never cared much for weapons and combat since I'm not really into action games, for me as long as "resources = victory" it is fine, and Starbound does that well.

Now, why do I prefer this game over Terraria? Visuals and possibilities mostly, I had more fun building and exploring in this game than I had in Terraria, and I also feel like the overall art design is just better handled.

  18. Edited thread title to better reflect the entire question that the OP has asked.

In my opinion, i think starbound is better than terraria because in starbound we have the variation of playable races and the better customization of the character, the mechanic of traveling to different planets in different galaxies, the dungeons looks like better than terraria, the biomes too, well its just my opinion guys, i didn't played terraria too much in the new version.

Every once in a while this same thread is created, some with polls, some with heavy criticisms, some just to bring up the topic again. And to all, and this, I say the same thing. Each is it's own game, and even though some peeps may have preferences I don't see the need to prefer one over the other or to continually compare them. Play both, enjoy both, love both... I still play Terraria every once in a while and love it for what it offers. I think that SB will be much deeper in it's lore/story/universe but won't love Terraria any less for it.
