You can't fault him for having a point. Having a beta for a few hours before release would still technically be a beta, that much i agree with you on, but still validates his point. Having it for a few hours, a day, or even just a couple months isn't really much of a beta, by then its not even a beta, its just an early access.

Then you deal with this conundrum: A game is never finished, therefore a release is still a beta.

Get where i am going with that?

Surely you can walk a mile in jason's shoes right?

Who siad you won't not to mention beta has multiple implications so since they didn't really put into detail what they meant, how do you know you won't get what you were promised.

I don't know if I can walk in his shoes, I am really not that wound up about this whole situation I don't feel I have been ripped off in any way.

I'm not wound up. Just because I hold an opinion that doesn't shine as brightly as some doesn't mean I'm angry. And a company can't just change the definition of Beta, it's a bit of a standard within the industry, and crowd-sourcing the beta-phase is a relatively new development (popularized by Mojang's success). The fact remains that we were promised a beta-phase early access if we pre-ordered and we haven't got it. And now, from the looks of things, the game is beyond the industry standard of Beta.

Is this a bit of speculation? Well yes. The game could have many more issues that haven't been made public, and it could be in a much earlier form than we percieve it to be. But if the daily posts are to be believed (and I see no reason not to) the state of the game is nearing a full release.

I'm not "wound up" in the sense that I'm angry at the team or will demand my money back or will even really hold it against them. But the fact remains that yes, I do feel a little disapointed in how this has all gone down.

I don't think starbound is feature complete yet. Industry standards of beta are all over the place so I still do not see why you are disjointed then again I am not you so I can not think the way you do so this really comes down to opinion in the end. Let's agree to disagree.

Well i can see your side on things, but i also see his.

This thread was actually one person's view of why starbound wasn't out yet, and some people like myself have given an explanation on why it isn't out, while others could see no reason why it shouldn't be in beta. All of its really valid though, One thing everyone has agreed on is beta is bug testing. But you have to actually have the beta for it to be a beta, and a lot of people are getting the vibe that chucklefish is trying to hand off a polished game.

Which brings me to another realization i forgot to mention. They may be trying to give a 100% polished game and add suggestions from the community to the game, (Not all suggestions, but ones they like) and have that be the content that is added and beta tested.

But that also brings me back to jason's view..

They are leaving an ever closing window in their time frame for there to be a beta. Which is a very solid point.

My position on this whole deal is beta probably should have been released at the start of this month or even the beginning of last month. But my thoughts on it are conflicting with each other. I understand as a business point. But there is a little thing that is key to business, and its being loyal to your customers. And having a major chunk ask for a refund because they feel cheated, is worse to me than missing out on maybe the last million i could have made if i waited a little longer keeping it between me and my dev team.

They said they would have a secondary team in place before they moved on to another project as well. I get the feeling there probably wont be too many people on that team due to their obvious trust issues, and again i can't fault them.

But i digress, i can't help but feel cheated as well.

Well I hope you feel better, maybe play other games to take your mind off it.

Been doing that, running out of games though. picked up a copy of evil genius. That one is pretty fun. Other than that, no other game is really scratching my itch right now.

I didn't read your first post, and apparently missed that you were in favour of i49. It was unclear from your second post. Despite that, you are still wrong with the bulk of your post.

No, you have stated a conspiracy theory that is disproven by the facts that we have.

You need to look at the daily updates again. They have been continuing to add new functionality up until about a week ago, where they stopped that and put all efforts towards finishing and polishing one part of the game to be able to show off that part at i49. I expect them to be continuing with adding features after i49. I.e. the game is not finished. Not feature complete. Not ready for beta, even. So your little conspiracy theory is bunkum.

A traditional beta, which is what Tiy seems to be aiming for, is a feature complete program with obvious bugs already stomped (devs don't need beta testers to find them) for beta testers to find the bugs the devs miss.

...says the bloke accusing everyone of being unable to read. Hint: comprehension isn't a one way street. It's not up to everyone else to interpret someone's unintelligible post. It's your job to make your reasoning clear - if nobody understands you, perhaps the problem is you, not them.

So you never did read my first post, and my poking and jabbing at you finally got you to actually read a post all the way through. My point still stands, the "traditional beta" hasn't been beta norm in almost 10 years.

And its not a conspiracy theory, blizzard actually did the same thing with diablo 3. I shouldn't have to spell everything out to people who claim to be adults capable of doing their own research, and should not be forced to hold hands with every forumite that frequents the internet. Again, you got me laughing. Almost to the brink of trolling, and underlining every replay of my out of context post doesn't make you right, actually, it points out the weakness in your logic even further. And your laziness of not being arsed to read a whole conversation before jumping in and mowing down a thread.

Also, they will continue to add updates, even after release, and content. its called perpetual beta, there is a traditional term.

And my second post was for a conversation about my first post, which logic would dictate that you probably should read before you take half the conversation for a joy ride. But since you feel that i have to make my post clear, what evidence is it you speak of that disproves the business practice that has been set in place by bethesda, blizzard, and sony, on many occasions?

    That one should be juicy.

This is based on what you and a few others have decided and in no way represents the actual standing of Starbound in various development stages.

What exactly have you been cheated on exactly? The developers have been more than transparent on what their goals are and from what I have seen, yet to go back on any promises.
You paid for Beta and that's that, not for the right to judge what you think Beta/Early Access/Full Release entails, that's Chucklefish's decision.

If you think the full release will pop up a week later than I question how close you have followed the development process, they have big plans for the game, plans already confirmed to be absent from the release

I'm not really here to argue with anyone, sorry. That's just how I feel. I'm not here to change your mind, and to be frank I don't see mine changing either.

For admitting that, I respect you. I doubt anyone came here explicitly to argue.

You mean about the Vita release? That's marked as 2014 and beta is still 2013 so I am not sure which part you are referring.

Also there is a big difference between promises and answers at various stages of development. Chucklefish has always pointed out when there are possible aspects that could bring about change to any possible feature

It was something else. I will find it eventually. I just can't remember for the life of me right now.

That was one but i get the itch that it was a major game feature that was proposed for after beta, but they may have decided to implement already. I could be wrong and be overthinking it though.
