Why the fans are upset about Starbound

It's like you want all the benefits of crowd funding your game without any of the responsibilities that come with it.

You wanted all the cash quickly and the lack of publisher oversight but you don't want to answer to the public you asked to fund you.

 

Please people, before you post something against the devs that has already been posted again and again, read the thread.

This seems to be lost in discussion, but one important thing to note is that this wasn't crowdsourcing. This was pre-orders. The only "entitlement" we have is that if they can't deliver a product, they deliver us a refund. And even that isn't necessarily true depending on where you live. Even if it was crowdsourcing, we are still not "entitled" to anything. We're "entitled" to even less, going by Kickstarter guidelines. They wouldn't even be required to provide us with refunds if the project failed. We're not investors. We did nothing more than buy a product. We are entitled to nothing more than with any other product we buy: essentially nothing.

 

I'd like to mention this before this thread gets destroyed. I'm obviously interested in this game and looking forward to it coming out. My biggest frustration is the perception that things in the game get worked on in a sort of random order. To put it another way, there appears to be a focus on working on certain aspects of the game that may not be essential to getting the beta out (like say adding the dash feature and animation) while there are still essential systems that need work before the beta can be released.

I've tried to use the words perceive and appear because we obviously don't know from the outside what goes into the decisions to work on certain aspects and not on others. I can't speak for anyone else but I would certainly appreciate a small look into how the team determines what stuff to work on and what takes priority over other elements.

Hopefully this doesn't get swallowed by some of the nastiness going on here.

Not really legally they don't have to. We do not own stock in the company we were only promised beta and full release.

Try to think of it this way: say that you kickstart any given game. Say Satellite Reign. Are you allowed to ask what your money is going to, apart from your pre-order? Absolutely. Nobody's stopping you. However: do you have a legal right to know? Not in the slightest.

 

Finally you have realized the truth.

 

When you behave like freaking paparazzi on scooters trying to get juicy shots from inside of a limo while it drives towards some destination, you get those kind of feelings directed at you.

 

Tiy, you shouldn't say anything at all if its not going to be nice.

It looks dickish. People hold devs to a higher standard and they should. I know it can be annoying and people are shitting on you, but being polite and helpful is the best way to do it. Not being passive aggressive back at them.

 

It's not that way, some things are minor but people try to make a huge deal of them and point fingers, they can reserve themselves to not reply some questions, as some made at something not only Chucklefish and many other companies discuss internally and do not expose everything publicly.

yeah, but they are saying its rude to even ask. It's not. I've funded a project that has so far undelivered and has even had its deadline slip. I think I'm allowed to ask the question why and what happened. You've taken my money and failed to deliver a product and are now dodging questions about why.
