Why randomly dropping "superior" brains is an inferior idea.

Personally, I would add a sort of override in the background. Brains still drop randomly, BUT the number of brains dropped is tracked. If the average number were hit without producing a Superior brain, the secondary method takes over and forces the next drop to be Superior. It would keep the illusion of randomness without allowing the theoretical bad-luck scenario.

    0.469983 need 201-240 kills[/quote]
Is my logic off or is yours?

A little less than half of a person needs over 200 kills for a brain

    Dang. ....sry little halfhuman timmy

im going to post this here as a reinforcement that the drop rates should be increased
ive played 3 character to the part where you need the brain, all 3 times I got it on my 9th kill (lucky me)
but I have a friend who doesnt play often, maybe a few hours a week, but he has killed over 500 monsters for his superior brain. he still doesnt even have it yet

Yes but most people don't mind the rate of dropping in other things, and if they do please put a link to threads on humaniod spawning problems
(Just in case those threads exist, I did say an increase in Apex spawn rates as well as 100%drop rate of the brain, right?)

I've found them within 3-4 brains most times, but I do know just how hateful RNG can be. I think slightly increasing the drop rate per inferior brain you get, would fix the issue. That way eventually it'd be 100%, no matter how unlucky you are, you'd still be guaranteed one.

You left out the 100% droprate on Superior Brains, but I get what you're saying. The change still wouldn't stop some people being incredibly unlucky and never coming across an Apex though. With droprates based upon random number generation things are not tracked beyond a single generated number, so even if there's an 80% chance of something dropping you'd have a 1 in 5 chance of failing to get it every single time you kill something. That means you could kill 100000 somethings and still be hitting that 20% non drop area each and every time. Granted this doesn't happen to many people, but this discussion is about making sure it doesn't happen to anyone.

    That's nice and all. .....
But unpredictable situations determine success, meaning randomness INDIRECTLY affects success, no way around that.

While reading this, I got another idea.
The Game has spawners that make shop npcs appear, how about one that sell u guns and u guessed it,
    The brain.
I think we all need a fluffy smartass Apex to come into a patch and help us in our time of need. (And hopfully this Apex won't destroy or ships. ..
This will keep the RNG gods At work in the game yet give unlucky players the ability to spawn "Apex Scientist" as a Surefire way to progress through this game once and for all.

I always figured that a superior brain required a sentient creature. Like people.

I was sadly disappointed to discover it was a random drop.

There's nothing stopping someone from just asking someone for a Superior Brain though. While it's interesting to point out that there's a small statistical chance a person may have to kill hundreds of monsters just to get one brain, realistically not many people have had to do that. And farming them is incredibly easy since you only need the gun to kill the monster, meaning you can weaken it with other weapons first and have pretty much endless chances if you are not shooting wildly since the regen is pretty quick.

That being said, I'm not against the idea of using inferior brains to create a superior one, but I don't really mind either way. Superior Brains are one of the easiest things to get in comparison to other stuff. RNG in a randomly generated game makes sense to me anyway.

Simple solution would be to allow players to craft a Superior Brain from a certain amount of Inferior Brains. Maybe throw in another crafting requirement for brain consolidating. Then no one would have to worry about having to blast through 100 tier 1 monsters with the OP Brain Extractor. (Personally I think its fine the way it is.) I'd like to see the brains have more uses than just summoning the Robot Boss.

I am new to this. Just got it a couple days ago, since I saw it on steam... anyhow, I was wondering, do you still find superior brains from monsters, or do I have to kill NPCs? I have 182 inferior brains, and still yet to get a superior one. The problem is that killing things with the brain extractor is kinda hard. Even on threat level 1 planets it still takes 2 to 3 of those short ranged zaps to kill things. And it uses more than half my energy bar for each use.

Hope there is not something I have missed and just did not realize it.

    It's still monsters.

Looks like you might be the one in a million. Lucky you.

If they never make the inferior brains useable for crafting a superior one, they could always make them cookable.

You don't have to actually do all the damage with the zapper, you can use a conventional weapon and just deal the final blow with the extractor to get your brains. That can make it far easier, particularly if you use the hunting bow I find.

Through multiple characters I have been both lucky and unlucky (one time I got two superior brains in two shots and another time I had to circumnavigate a medium sized planet and about 100 brains). This particular part of the randomisation has shifted my mild dislike of the Tier 2 Boss to rage inducing. (Seriously why is the Tier 2 Boss so damn complicated, resource and pixel heavy, especially compared to what little you have do for the Tier 3 and 4 Bosses.

I think the whole Tier 2 Boss needs to be worked on. You only have to construct one thing for the other bosses, but this one needs a specialised weapon for a item that has a low percentage to drop, then you take that item + resources and pixels to create another item but wait you then you have to create 3 more items, then use resources + pixels to assemble all the items. All those resources + pixels, add in what could easily be an ungodly amount of time for an item just for the boss drops an item that logic dictates you could have crafted yourself.

If I had tried that, there wouldn't have been anything left to zap. With some basic beta-level gear, I was one-shotting most of the monsters on my starter world. That's with either the (steel) bow or the simple sword I had. It wasn't a problem, though, since the brain extractor was also doing 1-2 shots.

I think armor helps. Better armor gives energy bonuses, right? While wearing steel, I could zap twice in a row, which helped with the 2-hit monsters and with my bad aim.

I had no problem farming for my 1st brain it only added to the journey but I only wish inferior brains were useful for something.

I got a superior brain on my first kill with that extractor thing.

And I feel terrible about it. Random drops should be for non-important items, not for required items to progress in the game.
