Why Pixels?

I dont see the general purpose of this resource other than as an attempt to add another grind to the mix. I dont mind gathering materials to make something, but "Pixels" just seems to not quite fit.

 

Because of hilarity. Also, pixels are the universal fuel for the 3D printer, and since almost eeverything is printed pixels have become the dominant currency throughout the universe.

 

I always thought of it as a very cute idea. I don't mind them at all.

 

Pixels are good as just currency and printer ink.

Pixels aren't good when you lose 30% of them when you die and you need them to make basic gear.

 

Without an aspect of risk, there is no feeling of reward.

 

This is being changed in tonight's update regarding the amount dropped, and regarding the amount you need during the first few levels.

To OP:
How I see it, Pixels offer an easy way for items and progression to be controlled and spread out. It's a good mechanic, but may need some balance as numerous dev's have explained. In my opinion, I suggest enjoying the game, exploring the map and seeing what you can find. Before you know it, you'll be over-run with pixels. (And fancy gear to boot) It's about the adventure, not the end destination. Err, end planet... Err... Well there is now end to the planets so.... Become space rich and print loads of baby aliens.
