People asked for a way to make wood a fuel for the ship. And this was one suggestion.

And coal is fairly easy to find, which is important for exploration.

So it is not without its incentive as a resource you should store. By storing some coal in the box or ship; you make recovery efforts, base building, and traveling by day or night that much quicker to start.

I believe the wood to coal recepie is not in stable. But early on, wood used to be able to fuel the ship. Just straight dumping of logs. Now that wood can be made into coal in the nightlies,(burning it into charcoal.) Wood can now still be used to fuel the ship, by burning it into coal.

Ait, So in the end of this thread, all I think is the fact that Coal is a redundant loss as an ore. If your a new player to starbound your gonna learn quick to farm and store it in abundance. Otherwise Unrefined wood should drop too. -just my Observational Arguement anyway.

Well wood is a material for use in building(as in, it is usable as a placeable block, unlike ore) , and its pretty much the most basic of materials available at the start. There's no need to be rid of wood, its more or less available once you beam down and it doesn't support any vital actions on its own.

Didnt say anything about getting rid of wood, but changing how Coal is supplied by wood. wood makes ore... sounds weird as a science.
