Why I wont be playing a Novakid.

You say nothing was invented from the wild west... JOHN WAYNE and CLINT EASTWOOD. But seriously, that's when the railroad industry took off, steel plow was invented, barbed wire.

 

Let's all not forget the United States Camel Corps!

 

Basically the developers are just filling archetypes. You also have a medieval knight archetype. No one is saying the developers support some of the vile and greedy things that some knights did back during the crusades. But the medieval period fascinates people. Its tech and lore basically inspired the classic fantasy genre that we have today. Same thing with the Wild West theme. It's just an archetype. The era inspired steampunk. No one accuses steampunk of supporting hatred towards native americans.

What's interesting is that OP saw the attire of the Novakids as presented by the developers, and immediately associated it with a Historical wild west. This is a mistake. As has been stated before, our pop culture depiction of the wild west is heavily influenced by the entertainment industry. "In earlier times, you had such a mismatch of people and the clothes they wore. They looked more like refugees than cowboys," -Don Reeves, curator at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

 

I absolutely love how the Novakids look. On the other hand, I also dislike "Wild West" culture. I'm probably still going to play as one regardless, though. Just because it says they act a certain way in the lore (or they wear certain clothes, as the case may be) doesn't mean you have to act that way on, say, a Roleplay server. IE Not all Florans have to be insanely hostile, not all Apex have to be bent on domination, etc.

I like wild west. But I'd prefer "Detective Noir" themed race.

 

to be honest when i heard about the novakids i though scifi or voodoo. not sure why though, it still puzzles me

 

I feel like you blew this a little too much out of proportion. Yes. It was essentially a very short and incredibly glorified/Hollywood-ed portion of history that shouldn't have gotten nearly as much attention as it did.

At the same time, the Dark Ages sucked big time and the Katana was a terrible weapon, so I guess the Ye Olde Robits and Samurai Fish People should be considered terrible too? Its a video game about space, not a historical documentary with 100% accuracy. This reminds me of that journey to the center of the earth movie where people were complaining because a kid was getting cellphone reception at the middle of a planet.

Because, y'know, next to the massive mushrooms and T-rex near the molten core of earth it just seemed so ridiculous.

To me The nova kids are great. So I will have one as a spec-ops captain for really dangerous planets or as a general.

 

I feel like through these posts, you are trying to make yourself sound more intelligent then you really are. You are just being super Pessimistic.

 

I'm quite content with keeping the Novakid as western. I love Steampunk and want to give the Parfelians a chance on filling the 'steampunk' racial appearance. Maybe 1.25 Million $ stretch goal...
