You aren't the first to say it and its just as equally pointless. I posted my opinion and I expect people to post theirs so we can talk about it. If you don't care, why are you here? Go away.

And I'm perfectly ok about the discussion veering off into other directions, it makes it more interesting. What I don't like is when people come in here telling me that it doesn't matter and that no one cares. That just kills the discussion and its rude. I couldn't care less if that is the case, I made the thread to have discussions, and I'm thankful to those who actually read and add to the discussion rather than reiterating previously made points and questioning my goals.

So you made this thread to talk about how you don't like cowboy hats?

You don't understand the point. Everyone here realizes the hype that's gone into the Novakid character race, and, well, here's just an explanation of why their kind of ruined in taste. They have no great interesting of a lore to attach too unless you're a really big cowboy type of fan, or you want to try something different. Their description even enlists them to be simple and short-minded, but being that their gas beings that look like glowing stars, it kind of balances out in a very odd-way. I don't like it :3 They didn't make the Novakids too cool so they can go up against the regular races in fair-play. I think that's fine, but still, kinda...distasteful.

The Novakids arnt' wearing scalps or redskin symbols because they have a cowboy-theme, not an indian theme. And where did you get that insultingly oversimplified "military gear = nazi" genralization from?

If you are wearing a high-crowned wide-brimmed hat, chaps, a shirt and a leather vest, people will assume that you are emulating a cowboy becasue you resemble the steriotypical image of a cowboy.
If you wear monocrome mid 1900-style jodhpurs, high boots, a tight monocrome cloth jacket and a monocrome officer hat people will assume that you are emulating a nazi because you look like the steriotypical image of a nazi.

You don't need a symbol to convey thease things. Someone who is dressed up like an indian dosn't need to wear some "indian symbol" to be recognized as looking like an an indian as long as he is close enough to they steriotypical image of an indian.

But people have given you critique on your argument, you just didn't like what they had to say. When your premise that the wild west was an unusually abhorrent time period was shot to pieces, you abandoned it, and simply said "well i'm bored with the wild west so there". I'm here out of curiosity, because this thread is either a train wreck of ignorance, a troll, or the outcry of an angsty teen. Perhaps some combination of the three.

While i think we all appreciate that you have your own opinion, I don't think anybody actually cares. If you don't like the Novakid, cool; Don't play it then, that's your choice. While i'm not much of a fan myself for the old west time-frame, it is still an interesting period of american history and i'm happy the devs decided to make a cowboy-style race, not to mention they can do whatever they want, since it's their game :p. Anyways, sorry some people are ignorant dicks and will just bash you like "OMG NO UR A FAGOT OL WEST IS BEST.", have a good evening.

There is no discussion here. You made multiple threads saying why you don't like a race because of stupid reasons. People don't care about your opinions, but they also don't want to see every crappy topic you make when they're trying to find a thread that has some actual discussion about it.

There are already plenty of threads that are talking about the races. You could post your complaints in those.

You also claim that everyone should be able to discuss what they want. We are. We are saying your threads are unnecessary, and then you're telling us to go away. Believe it or not, people have different opinions.

TL;DR: if you want to discuss races, go to the other threads to discuss races instead of making a new one every time.

My take on the wild west theme would be one of mild intrigue but I'm not blown away by it. One question I had would be what kind of ARMOR would we get using a wild west theme? That being said, I really like the style of the Novakids physical appearance. And remember, it probably won't take long before you can get your Novakid wearing something more your speed.

  9. I'm super excited that Novakids are being added to the game. And I'm super sad that some people don't like them so much because they have a short attention spans and don't record history. They remind me of me and history was my worst subject. I won't be playing an Apex because I don't like any of the hairstyles. I won't be playing an Hylotl because they have red eyes. I won't be playing a Floran because they remind me too much of my Sylvari and I want something different. Same thing for human, because well, I'm human. And I won't be playing a Glitch because I just like Novakids more.

I'm thinking they're probably going to go with a sort of Firefly style. The weapons will all probably look a lot like Cowboy gear but will fire very different projectiles. As for amour I don't know really, thinking about It I'm having trouble visualizing something useful in combat and not just actual cowboy clothing.

Same here. This has to be one of the most ridiculous threads I've ever come across.

Reminds me of college freshman who take one semester of social psychology or something similar and think they are philosophers.

We don't delete or lock every topic just because other people come into the topic and derail it / cause issues. I'm not going to punish the OP, or his opinions, for how other people veer the topic off course. Nor do we lock every remotely similar thread. I'm not going to go back to the first page of the forums and look for every similar thread and manually merge them together. That takes an unnecessary amount of time, and I doubt anyone on this forum (admins, mods, members, or otherwise) would want to sift through every single thread and try to categorize them based on how similar they are. Considering we deal with harassment, insults, and other issues that arise, there's no time to categorize everything.

This is my formula for taking care of these issues.
    • If 2 similar topics are active: (AKA 3 threads about the same screenshot) Merge them.
    • If 2 similar topics, and one is inactive: One of a few choices.
      • If it's one of those "What is the first thing you will do when X" threads, keep the most active one. These threads are like "flavor of the day" threads. There's no need to delete every one that arises, especially if the previous one is buried. They come and they go. They're utterly harmless and it takes more time to go and find the "first and original" version than it does to leave the current one open.
        • Yes, we could sticky the original version, but we've had negative feedback from keeping too many topics stickied; It can negatively impact people who browse the forums on mobile devices or slow computers. So that's a no-go.
      • If it's discussing a "hot topic" (Like youtube celebrities getting early access, etc.) we'll merge the smaller thread into the larger thread.
      • If the first post is the only post in the thread, asking for a discussion about a similar topic, we'll lock / remove that thread and direct the OP towards the larger thread. Since merging a single post asking for a debate into a thread where the OP is asking for a debate would be unwieldy.
    • If a thread like this, where the OP has an opinion that's not really generally favored, I won't lock it just because other people start stuff. It's his opinion and he has every right to say it. Just because people grab their torches and pitchforks doesn't mean I'm going to join in and give that angry mob what they want. (Thread lock, deletion.) I've read the thread and I think OP has been very polite about his opinion. We don't discourage discussions here, we simply ask that people remain civil.
    • If this was a thread where the OP was aggressive about his opinions, and didn't actually discuss it, and people caused a shitstorm, it would be locked/removed.

That being said: This topic is fine. People should be accepting of people's opinions.

My personal opinion: People don't like the Wild West because of the things that give the Wild West a bad name. I can see how people could enjoy the intrigue and action of a high-noon showdown. Or an exciting last stand against vicious outlaws, or martial law and physical justice against dangerous gunslingers. Yes, a lot of movies don't focus on the "bad parts" of the Wild West. It's like how little kids play "Cowboys and Indians," it doesn't mean people need to drop a bomb of reality on them and tell them the grisly history lesson. Sometimes people want to imagine themselves in another time period, to enjoy the best and most fun of that time, not the worst. I personally don't like the Wild West, but I can surely see why some people do.

That being said, I'd really enjoy if people turned down any hostilities and passive aggression that might be lurking around. Mature discussions are fun to have. Nobody needs to go around saying "nobody cares" or "this is useless" or anything. In life, people are going to say things you don't like. There won't be any moderators to delete or remove anything you don't like. You'll have to handle in it one of two ways: with maturity and understanding, and with the intent of making a compromise / chalking it up to difference in opinions. Or you can insult people and claim their opinions aren't as important.

Which choice you make in that scenario is yours alone, but while here, we're not going to really accept insults and being rude / immature about others' opinions. So again, please play nice and discuss maturely. I'm curious what other people think about this topic too.

I actually really like the whole space-cowboy thing since it's all fantasy anyways. I may choose this race as my first play-through instead of the Glitch which was my original plan, up until hearing about this new race.

Also, i haven't read this whole thread so please forgive me if i'm being a bit redundant, but "cowboys" didn't commit very much genocide against the Native Americans, if at all. There were wars and mostly just battles and small confrontations, but a large majority of the Native population was already killed off by the plague before the pilgrims even arrived to Plymouth Rock which wasn't an intentional thing, it all happened years before there were any remarkable European settlements in America and the disease itself could possibly even have originated by Vikings, yes, i said Vikings. Who, by the way, were most likely the actual "discoverers" of America, besides the natives obviously, and definitely not Columbus. Literally 90+ percent of the Natives in America were killed by the plague without intention by Europeans, there were actually so many Natives before the plague that after they were all killed, all of the trees that they were regularly cutting down grew back at such an extreme rate that the global average temperature actually dropped by several degrees. The rest was really just assimilation, there were confrontations as per-usual for human beings, but "cowboys" didn't even exist until quite a long ways after all of that.

The real reason why you think otherwise, why you think the "Cowboys" killed a bunch of Indians, is because that was a more impressive and imposing story to tell about ourselves (i say, as an American), that we; "Defeated the natives with our might and superior technology!", rather than the truth, which is that they died for no real reason, just a disease, the same disease that killed a large portion of Europeans as well. The Pilgrims would have had their a$$es handed to them if they faced the full, hostile forces of the Native Americans (Read up on the attempted invasion of America by Vikings). The fashionable belting on their boots wouldn't even have helped them, not even their stupid hats.

A tip: Don't trust most history text books, stick with primary sources everyone.

I'm no huge fanboy of the wild west time but something about the period just seems kinda cool you know. The idea of a state of law enforced by power and guts. Where vigilante justice wasn't just for characters like batman ya know and good guy didn't exactly mean nice. But even if you don't like the time period : Space Cowboy swagger.

Honestly though the Nova Kids are something i like the look of because they look to be on fire or made of mystical energy. Sadly lore isn't always something that really grasp my attention but it has at times really got me.

So what do you call OPs original post? The entire thing was derogatory in nature. He's insulting anyone that has any interest in playing a Novakid; basically telling them they are supporting genocide.

Right. And we are the hostile ones for trying to defend lore in a video game.
