Why I wont be playing a Novakid.

How has this thread not lit on fire already? There's strawmen everywhere and its hot as hell straight from the first post!

I'm a bit disappointed.

 

Well the mods don't seem to do very much, no offense guys, I've seen so many duplicates of topics and yet they never get combined or closed

Actually I was happy with it for the first couple of pages but then a bunch of people came in here like "omg dude don't take the game too seriously" and "omg no one cares". You know, people who have nothing to add. I'm kind of disappointed that the thread came to this but its probably about time it was locked or something because its only going to be downhill from here.

They do whats necessary and I do actually appreciate the way they do their jobs. They let us post our opinions to a point and delete/lock threads that get out of hand.

Oh thats great though there, america been winning since 1776 I can understand your jealous nature towards them. To be honest the wild west was the closest we had to a sandbox game before the genre was created in a box. You should be thanking america for exploring the idea only to reiterate it in video games 200 years later.

The novakids arnt wearing scalps or redskin symbols or the such. There is a difference between a style and a symbol.

Anyone wearing black military gear could be called a nazi by your judgement.

I think my opinion of the wild west theme has been made obvious lol.
IMO this was planned on being a flame fest before the thread was started.
Nothing but aggressiveness and intolerance from the get go.

Eh thats not exactly true, the US didn't become a major player until WWI where the government decided to profit on the war effort. After the war the agriculture and various other factors of the nation weren't changed to reflect the fact that Europe wasn't buying nearly as much of United States product anymore, hence leading to the depression. In fact had WWII not occurred and the US once again using it as an opportunity to profit, the Great Depression would not have ended for quite a while.

 

I agree, I think they should based off a culture or historical period that didn't have any awful atrocities, such as... um...

What? Nazis are a fascist political party with racist and antisemitic leanings. The wild west theme as it exists today is a cocktail of history and Hollywood.

 

I have actually stated numerous times that my dislike of the Wild West theme is less due to the atrocities committed but due to the fact that it bores me. When I mention the atrocities I'm not talking about the culture, I'm talking about the fact that they are ignored when the Old West is used in television and such.

 

It's still pretty boring and depressing, I guess.

 

Oh, so pretty much like every other time period. In every other country. With every other race.

You've posted two threads now of "Why I won't be playing..." and I respect your opinion. However, I'm curious what races you do like, and for what reasons.

 

Yeah, I looked at the novakids and was like:
"They would be cool; but cowboys are lame."

Understand that it is not the time period that usually causes the fascination, it is the stories that were told during the times of the wild west and in wild west themes that cause great interest.
Great Clint Eastwood films, great spaghetti westerns, even Indian Jones was western like! And the heroes were not usually bad guys, they were one of the few heroes or anti-heroes to appear in a world of shit!
That is why we kind of glamorized cowboys and western society from time to time. It was a flawed time, and that's why we love it. Perfect is a little overrated. Red Dead Redemption gave us a fun game, but with a character, main character we grew to like even though he said little. He was charming and like-able and was kind of disinterested but partially social at the same time making slick remarks and what-not.

Even Trigun, an anime, has western influences but also Sci-Fi. It seems unfitting and uninteresting to the naked eye at first, but it's really REALLY evoking and draws you in soon.

I still do think the Novakid are kind of overrated because their race is just so interesting. It's all mostly subjective.

 

Well "Sousuke Kuroda is bored with the Wild West theme" is not an exciting topic. I'd venture as far as saying no one cares. So of course the discussion is inevitably going to expand into talking about other things. There are lots of blogs out there just waiting for you to start topics like these.
