Why I think that the beta should be nearly completely closed...

I think it should be a closed beta, with most of the keys going to people on the forums

 

Only those who Contributed a lot.

 

Define "contribute". I mean, the forum really just started.

 

Well, it did just start. However, IIRC, The game was planned for Early summer? That gives about 3 months for the full game, and probably 2 for the Beta. You've seen TO. By that time this forums will be Completely transformed.

 

TO originally started small, due to the small amount of people who knew the game. Once pbat and the game was released, many users came to the forum. Unlike terraria, starbound started with a huge community.

 

Again though, define "contribute". Does that mean people who are on the forums, or only particularly active on the forums, or only really helpful, etc.

 

I agree to a degree. The people who sign up on the forums at least had the effort to do that, so they should get keys,
BUT, the people who partake in the conversations and are actually dedicated should be on the top of the list.

 

And with me here? Within weeks I could get half my school on here. But I won't, because it'd look something like this.
"OmarZ Replied to the thread 'Hei MC Y dont u use ur real name?"
And the reply would be:
"Fr real Mo U cn just put ur real nam wat r u a pussy ?"
So I don't believe I will.

At least they put forth an effort to sign up on the forums, and personally, I think that is enough.
I know people who will sign up on the forums, go on them EVERYDAY, but only have 5-10 posts.
You can never tell, therefore, signing up on the forums in my opinion is enough to be above the people
who just signed up for the beta, and then the more active you are will put you even higher.

This just boils down to opinions and the way you look at things. You can look at it as allowing more people in the beta will build hype, if any mechanics are leaked, or allowing more people into the beta will destroy interest because of possible leaks. It also depends on the mechanic. If the mechanic is something you would have to try for yourself, then it would probably get people more excited. In the end, the devs are the ones who will decide how the beta is done. They may even remove any major mechanics and keep those to test for themselves.
