I would like a beta, I like exploring, so I wouldnt go on the wiki myself. If you want to, its your choice.

I totally agree with dr.g33k here. Personally, a big beta would ruin some of the experience for me. Even if I would be able to participate it would kill a lot of fun so just get a good amount of capable testers (I mean people that are capable of finding bugs, problems, etc. and don't forget what they did before it occured instantly ;) ).

I'd much rather have to wait and play the full game, make my discoveries, explore the mechanics and be teased by little information tidbits till then instead of seeing a lot of stuff, seeing it changed a few times, be less excited about the game when it releases.

just my opinion. d3 beta footage already got me less excited about the game really (even though I'm going to play a LOT of d3 when it comes out eventually).

Why Not let people vote for it?

Because the devs probably know better then us how to treat the whole beta thing, anyone experienced in betas know that its not for everyone and everyone should not play them unless they are stress tests.

They just need people to find bugs with the beta. If they need the publicity they'll easily recruit a well know LPer(such as Pbat) or even do it themselves(more likely anyways and more technical). I'd love to see a series like how Redigit and Blue did back in the day since they gave just a small taste of Terraria.

I do not stand on Your side of the argument. Spoilers are only for those who want them. Spoilers doesn't spoil, they enhance. I remember playing Terraria just after it came out, and parallelly watching Pbats videos. Not spoiling, but enhancing the gameplay experiance, and giving inspiration. Releasing a strict beta for a limited amount of people is a great idea, and there is absolutely no need to not use it in this game. For conservative people, like You, they can just avoid watching let's plays.

I couldn't agree more. A closed beta similar to the way the patch was handled in Terraria would be a good idea.

  8. I completely agree. Only like 100 People should be chosen for the CLOSED Beta.

Well I would like to be one of the hundred! I dont think there is anyone who doesnt want to be one.

People who are prepared to stress the game and really dig up the bugs (No pun intended) are really ideal for this, honestly. Most people see betas as a "Demo" and that's the kind of mindset that kills games in my opinion.

  11. Well, we all want to, but you don't always get what you want. And certainly saying "I want to be one of them" isn't going to help.

No kidding, it's the reason why we can't have more open betas. Testers should test but players gonna play.

I know, but if they ever need someone. I would like to help

I think you are over-valuing the "surprise" part. For me at least, I find it more enjoyable to find out more information about the game than to talk aimlessly about what might be in the game.

Ultimately it is up to the devs, since they know their own game best, but imo saying that a small beta would be best simply so you can surprise the whole community at once is not good reasoning.

I agree. When mass effect 3 was announced I never looked at the trailers, gameplay or even previews. All I did is check the specs and pre-ordered it. Since then I still have no idea what to expect from the game, all I know is that I will love every pixel of it.
I'm going to be the same with starbound... more or less.

You would rather the developers release a bugged and broken final version of the game just so you can preserve the anonymity of the game for the community's sake?

    That sounds stupid.

I totally agree with you G33K. Playing Terraria for the first time was a great fun. Discovering new things makes it all feel so exciting and amazing, it gives you a sense of accomplishment. I honestly would rather be in the dark until the game is released and then set out to explore it with my friends, instead of just knowing what happens and when.

A closed beta is better, an open can only be better if its to test the multiplayer end of discussion.

Don't run around and say open beta is better for the game because "You don't care if you get spoiled", doesn't really matter, spoiling a game = showing too much content = bad for the game!
And I doubt they are in high need of beta testing help, since they probably have friend who they can rely on.
I'll rather hear like Rex, a honest statement "because I want to play it as soon as possible".

What is and does sound stupid is that you suggest the game would be buggy and broken if YOU or any other random kid did not beta test it.
